The Alfama District is commonly known as the old town in Lisbon. We got a steal and were able to get an apartment there for $50/night for 3-4 people in 2022. The Alfama District spreads on the slope between the Sao Jorge Castle and the Tejo river aka your butt will hurt from walking up and down the hill. I meant to say hills* with an s at the end because there are A LOT of them.
The name of this district comes from the Arabic Al-hamma, meaning “hot baths”. There are a lot of arabic influences in Lisbon, Portugal as well as many others because it used to be the hub of the world. I especially love the architecture, tall ceilings and really cool tiles.
I could literally spend days looking at all the beautiful tiles in the apartment and in Lisbon. They are so gorgeous and cute. I wish I could have an entire house built out of it but for right now go watch my video 🙂 Another cool part about staying in the old town is that you will be close to all the restaurants and events so you will be able to take advantage of these events without much commute time.
