We are in the middle of renovating our house in an abandoned Portuguese village. Today i have a special video for you. I dive into what it took for me to buy my first property in Portugal. It is basically a Quinta, a Portuguese farm. I elaborate on the price of the property and what i have in mind for this property / farm for the future.
My name is Jasper and i bought a house in a Portuguese ghost town. Together with my dogs Zoey & Akira we show you the rebuild of our house en what it is like living the daily life in Central Portugal.

Hi Jasper, just a thought… the ruin on the platform, why not like most camping spots…put some showers, toilet and washing machine for the ones that don't have a full-option mobile-home… and maybe a BBQ 🤔 grtjs van de buren 😉
At least Jasper is doing something with a lot of enthusiasm in stead of only dreaming.
I guess most of the negative reactions are from people that never leave the office chair behind the desk in that beautifull room that you can't heat in winter because there is no gas anymore 😂
R u sure people don't come and steal thing's around they're?
Super interessant.
Welk programma gebruik je voor de sketch-ups? Mooi gedaan.
You should have brought a small tractor 🚜 rather than two quad bikes 🏍 😉 🙄
Can none residents (I live n UK) buy and own land in Portugal? Any idea of the requirements?
Jasper do your homework on what impact changing waterlevels (dam) and moving large amounts of soil have both on your property as well as your neighbours. You are doing things that can/will have a negative impact on their land and livelyhood and are already waving away the problems as no issue. Even if you buy all of it (the irritation will make trouble), you will be paying for the results of these actions. You now come across as a spoiled rich guy that thinks money fixes everything including how nature reacts to your changes in the landscape. Brings bad blood between you and the locals. Add the unrest that more outside people bring and you can really screw up a good thing. Also going by what problems other ytbers have getting tourism permits, assume a no (nature, water availabilty (desertification!) and not enough firefighters for protecting the houses. Portugese government seems to be protecting its rural and semi empty areas from development and understandably so. Think small!! not big, certainly numbers wise.
Thanks for the visit and tour. Enjoyed the back story on your purchase and the features of that site. It's cool you've been able to produce a variety of TPP videos with Renato… yeah, we didn't need any more of you cleaning tiles, lol.
I Jasper, I don't normally post but thought that a way to help the cleared land would be to use the grass cuttings from the strumming of the main house and spread them as mulch. It will potentially help rejuvenate the land
Finally I get what your plans are very interesting, like that property has a lot of potential .Jasper like that your touching on other subjects in your area it doesn't always have to be about construction. You should also do a video at the grocery store if they let you film to show what they sell and prices etc
Do you follow Martijn Doolaard? Hes doing a magnificent renovation
nice video
I am excited for you. I can't wait to see things move along. It is so interesting.

The wee stone buildings on the land are beautiful and m so happy they will be restored and made into tiny homes for people to enjoy for many years to come …
The excavation work has revealed much potential, it will be exciting to see it evolve …
Like minded new people coming, volunteers and visitors with breath life back into this ghost town, for people to enjoy again for many many years to come …. An amazing legacy Jasper !
🙏☘️😘
Thank you Jasper. That was very interesting, your plans for future development. I have been with you from the beginning. I do remember when you brought this big land. Doris 🇦🇺🦘
Wow, big landowner😃
Jasper, I’m puzzled. Where is your new camera person? Have I missed something?
Love to see the old land getting some attention <3
Gosh, removing the roof and rebuilding the walls is going to be a very big job…I didn't realise they were heritage listed.
The little ruin is so cute. I can see it finished in my minds eye. Really enjoyed the tour. Thank you
That one’s good bar.
Glad to see dreams Jasper and they can come true!!!

As the new owner, are you under a specific time frame to restore the ruin? If not, does it mean restore or let fail down, but don’t restore incorrectly w the incorrect material?
Interesting video. How about letting people stay on the land and in return pay and build a decking platform. Thereby you get all the individual decks done for free. 👍🏽😎
Jasper, the price is for the ruins ? Or with the land as well? Where exactly are you building the deck ? On your part of the land?? Um…..not clear…
No doubt quiet at this moment but with farm animals, do you think it will be the same ???
Great job jasper. Both the little ruins would make great little living homes . The lower one could be raised in height with the stone in the retaining wall and I think it will be very interesting to see the process of building with schist stone and though you cant charge for camping maybe you could charge for schist stone working classes and let people camp there. Do you know what it costs there to put in a septic system? Looks like you are going to need to do strimming down there for fire protection especially now that you showed everyone 😉 Enjoyed this a lot.
Jasper it is possible to save the wall I watch a lot of Reno shows and walls 10 times worse than yours are fixed with acro props or jack props , boards secured to the crooked wall cross timber’s secured to that and the prop is tightened damping the walls mortar and cm by centimetre it is corrected the mortar in your tiny house is most likely a mix of mud and lime mortar so the wetting of the wall is paramount with each tightening of the props the wall on the program I watched was on abc Australia called restoration Australia and was colonial restoration at Ballarat series 3 Clydesdale is the name it shows the gap 12 inches wide that animals crawl through and at the end it rejoins perfect without taking a stone out 👍❤️❤️❤️🙏
Hi Jasper. i followed all of your videos since the start and although i rarely comment I'm watching your progress very closely and i really like what your goals and intentions are, and what you are achieving there. I'm a carpenter/builder with over 40 years under my belt living in and working in S France now for the last decade doing all kinds of interesting restoration projects and the like. I love what i do with a passion. Were called Artisans here which basically means we do a proper job and have high standards of workmanship i guess so i admit i do cringe occasionally at some of your techniques, but, with that said though i would never nock you for it, we all make mistakes along the way, its all part of the learning curve, you always throw yourself into what ever your doing and rise to the challenges you face very calmly and i really admire that i a person.
I have a few Dutch clients here so i get you! your a very logical bunch and easy to get on with.
I think things are coming on very nicely there for you, and now you have extra help and with some young blood helping you should come on in leaps and bounds!
Keep up the good work my friend(s) and ignore the haters you come across as a great guy and i love following your channel because your very real.
Good luck guys see you in the next episode!👍👍😎😎
