New here? My name is Lea and I live with my partner Maarten, our toddler Puck and baby Bo on our land in Central Portugal. We left the rat race in the Netherlands in 2018 and moved south in our old campervan. Two years ago we bought land in Portugal that had been abandoned for several decades. After lots of hard work we now live in a beautiful yurt and keep ourselves busy growing our own vegetables as well as producing olive oil, wine and honey on a small scale. This channel documents all the different jobs we have to do, and sometimes some nice footage of this beautiful country we now call home.

  1. I love the stew from our local Greek: "stifado" (?). A stew with lamb, onions and red wine from greece. Loved that dish. I am now in my Napolese Ragu period and I make a damn good one. I love this season! Your stew looks so nice dude!! ✌🏻🧚‍♀️

  2. So sorry to hear of Sisi's passing. We lost two of our 14 year old dogs just before Christmas and we still miss them. I like to think they are all up in doggy heaven running like puppies again. Love and hugs to all of you.

  3. Leuk en goed idee dat je de stoof daar geplaatst hebt, je kan misschien je keuken in de herfst/winter/lente afschermen zodat de warmte binnen blijft zodat je daar ook meer in kan vertoeven.

  4. I'm sorry to hear about your pup, it's a tough thing to do but a humane thing so they don't suffer..the dreary weather doesn't help matters much these days either..we're experiencing the same weather here in my area on the east coast of the u.s. (philly suburbs). I hope the bug runs its course quickly. Do you guys celebrate Halloween there? Maybe a pumpkin carving is in order to lift the spirits👻 🙂

  5. THAT SURE LOOKS YUMMY!!!!! Now that I got a wood stove on the patio this year I might start cooking some like that… So sorry you lost your best friend it's very heartbreaking I know too well. It was a short 7 months ago we had to put my service dog of 18yrs. down. She gave me her best so I had to do what was best for her the vet said. I still find myself calling or looking for her….
Much love and prayers be blessed in Jesus name… BBE..

  6. Hey Folks, hope you are all feeling better now. I have to tell you, I love Autumn in Portugal; the cooler weather, the rain followed by sun, followed by more rain, it's so beautiful and good for the vegetation. I was surprised to learn that you usually buy fire wood, do you have plans to plant trees to coppice? We have been cutting down the invasive mimosa trees and we have found that they dry out quickly and burn well. They also grow quickly, and so we are leaving some of the younger ones to see if they can sustain us without them becoming a pest. That stew looked very reminiscent of traditional Portuguese dishes! Good stuff! Best wishes to you all.

  7. Bonjour . Je apprécie énormément le travaille que vous faites et aussi le courage pour avoir changer de vie. Vous enfants sont très beaux et joyeux. Je espère que votre avenir soit toujours très ensoleillé. 🤗🌹

  8. I like to follow your simpel way if living. Am Belgian and normally speak Dutch like you…now I will do my best English. About the quince, did you know you can soak the pits, just in some water…after some hours it becomes like a gel. You can use it as a cream on the skin.
The stew looks good ! Smakelijk 🙏🏼🐳

  9. Sorry to hear about your dog Sisi, they are just like family. She wwas old and had the last few years with a kind family…Hope things start to be better for you take make things on a cheerier time for you and your family…I've been watching for quite awhile now and just to let you know you have a Canadian fan here..and since you put the stove out in the kitchen I presume you have another smaller stove in your home now.

  10. Hello! Iam from Greece and we cook quince with many ways. Sofigado and sweet and tarts and roast in the oven with sugar and cinnamon. I hope you like it and enjoy your food! I watch every video, you are a lovely family. Many kisses to you all! God bless you!🧡❤️🧡❤️ I am really so sorry for your dog! Her soul is in heaven now.

  11. The stove in the kitchen looks like a great idea. Cooks food, warms you, and uses free fuel.
Well, assuming that all the hard work gathering and prepping the wood is considered 'free'….
But at least it doesn't cost cash. A good thing!

But what are you now using to heat the yurt? A system that runs off your solar? Or something else?

  12. When you said “to lazy to chop any garlic” I’m right there with you. So,what I’ve been doing is chop enough to fill a small jar and pour olive oil on the garlic. Then it’s ready to go when I need it. Beau is energy…I wish it could be bottled. Everything is new to them. Child-like is good to have around. Thank you for the video. I’m so glad you are getting some rain.

  13. Lea you make me laugh,I love your attitude to life. Phoenetically it is “kwinces” the same as “kween” Ihope this helps. Look forward to your videos Sunday nights,Melbourne time, but sometimes I just have to go to bed and look forward to Monday mornings.

  14. It is wonderful to enjoy your rain with you. We are with no rain for months and the wind today is75miles per hour. This is making the sky brown and hard to breath. My girls came to live here in 2011. We do not know the age but they are both in the senior dog moments here. It is very difficult to lose animals you care for. Molly was a racing dog and retired here as she was with no home. Today I am brewing elderberry syrup with dried oranges, cloves and cinnamon. I have been hearing flu bugs so I am getting my home brew ready. Have a great week

  15. You were wondering about Boe blond hair that is a trait from strong European blood line, then he will turn darker as he gets older. Quince can be cooked in the oven and eaten with custard or ice cream. Very delicious with steamed meat. Wishing you always the very. Love your channel.
