First Farm Tour | My Farm in Central Portugal | #23

The first official farm tour of my newly bought farm in Penamacor, Castelo Branco, Portugal.

I walk through the structure and outbuildings and show you rough ideas of what I have in mind for the renovation project before briefly taking you on a tour of the land.
After the spring rains the vineyards are looking gorgeous with new life sprouting.

More tough decisions ahead with living off-grid and deciding whether to take a sabbatical from work.

About Girl Meets Farm:
I’m Christine. I started this journey in search of my forever farm in Portugal, and now I have found it!

This is my adventure as a solo expat on a farm in Central Portugal with my two fur-kids, Shakti & Shiva.
I’ve never owned or lived on a farm, but moved to Portugal in the hope of fulfilling a life-long dream of finding open space, subsistence farming and a safer, better life.

Now that we have found our farm, the second stage of our journey begins!
I have to figure out farm life while renovating an agricultural structure to make it habitable and turn it into a comfortable home for me and my furkids.

Thank you for following our journey.

  1. Congratulations! It's such an amazing feeling and so exciting to have a blank slate and to have all the ideas flowing! Best of luck with finding builders and be very sure to first ask around for opinions on anyone you find. I've heard many a horror story with builders in these parts. Your place looks great!

  2. Wow, You found a gem property. Your vineyard looks amazing. I am looking forward to seeing all your progress on this new property. On a side note Please check the local laws before doing construction on the standing buildings, You can get into a hot pickle if you break certain historical laws concerning old building structures. Best of luck in all your endeavors.

  3. Wow, looks amazing, thank you for showing us around! I haven't caught up on your other videos yet so not sure if you are wanting to "farm" as such but it's wonderful to already have some useful structures, enclosures etc in place! Best of luck with your project and look forward to seeing more videos 🙂

  8. Hi Christine, I can imagine your excitement unlocking that door the 1st time. You and Cindy, are an inspiration .. SA woman are tough..and as our saying goes.. you eat an elephant "happie vir happie".. warm regards

  9. Hi Christine, I thought I recognised you, we met back in Cape Town, in fact we go quite a way back in the digital marketing space. Its Chris Corbet 👋 small world isn’t it 😏 Congratulations on the purchase, it’s something I have always dreamed of doing. I was in Portugal in 2020, having a look around with a view to relocating, there’s actually a video somewhere in my timeline about that trip. If I were to live in Europe, Portugal would be my first choice, so who knows, it might yet happen! I’ll be following your journey with interest.

  10. I don't know the deal you got for this but everything is gorgeous, some that have established themselves there could be envious. Congratulations and don't worry all those that I talked about will be more than willing to give you advce or even help out.

  11. I hope you are ready to learn fast!! You will need a strong back, ride on mower, strimmers/whipper snippets, chainsaw, knowledge of how to make wine and how to speak Portuguese! Joseph Marsh lives near Fundao and seems to be a kind, honest person with a lot of knowledge and connections with tradespeople.

  12. Wow!
So much bigger with everything cleared out so well by the seller.
Once those spider webs are removed you will be ready to start your renovation project. Excited for you to get going too!
Huge potential and your envisaged plans are good and practical.
The lands beautiful with the green vines. Love the old olive trees as well.
Keep us posted….enjoying this journey with you and the dogs😊

  13. Congratulations! Found your channel yesterday and binge watched 😛 I hope the renovations (and relationships with the builders, etc) go well. I assume you already know most of the youtube channels of the people doing what you're doing in central Portugal? They really seem to be a nice and supporting community.

All the best, looking forward to your next videos.
