As of September 1, 2022, the cabin is finally dried in and I can mentally see the final home and how it’s going to work for us. I explain the thinking behind the cabin location and orientation, how the rooms are laid out inside, what I’m using the loft space for, what additions and other buildings I’ll be building alone in the near future and more.

What you have accomplished is absolutely amazing!
This stuff speaks to me so much, maybe just because I'm stuck in a big city in Korea where people live on top of each other… But I've been looking at places in the states that are secluded maybe for when I go back…
So awesome, Shawn! 🇨🇦👍😎📷⚘
Also please put in a well pump with solar power so that you can enjoy using the bathroom inside and taking showers with your family and or friends in the extreme cold
Also don't forget to add solar air conditioning so your family can be there more and put in a well to have a toilet and running water from the Stream Sean
Fireplace in a living room spacious area should have a stone wall behind it like also kitchen area as well
Think you should put a stone wall behind the fireplace
drive the fitted metal point deeper; thus unplugging the well pipe. I am not sure if this makes sense, but thought I would throw out this idea. Take care.
I find ur series soo informative. Ur series is the 2nd one that I find very relaxing. I'm intrigued by ur dedication, level of experience. I really enjoy ur work. Kudos to you
Vc é irresistível!!!!
Afinal vc é todo lindo!!!!
Man you better get busy
Nossa q corpo!!!! Desculpe Shawn , mas eu não consigo deixar de té admirar!!!
Good stuff
Looking great Shawn. Awesome job. Thanks for sharing.
Eu estáva com saudades de vc!!!!
I had the same problem putting in a sand point 2 years ago, here in Wisconsin. I first tried a manual fence post driver but that crushed the threads on the pipe (using the coupling). I then rented a jack hammer with a well driver bit. It still took a little effort and was slow going but it worked great. 15 feet down with lots of water.
The cabin is beautiful.
cabin is coming along nicely I am excited to see how it looks once it is done
Dear Shawn, …I'm speachless!!! I've been viewing you Self Reliance Channel sind the first House an when your Dog was little ;-). So I've been looking out for how you are doin' on your new Cabin. HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE RESPECT how you do this all by yourself. You have achived so much of Spirit into all you've been building since years, an your Spirit leaves a mark in this World, that shows what a Man can do in a frew Years, …noch mentioning what a Man can do in his whole Life. This new Generation is nothing compared to you – not in their Spirit and not in their mental Level, neither in anything that could get a bit of near what you are as a human Soul on this World. You are showing what living and what WILL in life is all about, and what itcan move, if someone (like you) brings up the strength, effort, WILL and Love and about what is important to someone on this World. God bless you, Shawn and thank you for letting us all be a whitness to what a Man can achive and what the Word Spirit really means. Yours, MARIO, Frankfurt/Main […called Mainhattan 😉 ] / Germany. T,ake care, Man.
Knowing where and when the sun is all year round will certainly help how and if you adjust aiming your solar panels, it seems worth the effort to track and chart that. I have so much to learn before my attempt at off grid but already have learned very much from you Shawn, thanks bud!
How much land do you have in acres?? Thanks
What a layout !!! Snug , neat side areas, yet spacious, spiritual center core. With a loft and a basement, decks and platforms why you've covered all the areas of life
Great walk through! This has given me a ton of ideas for my cabin restoration project 👍
are your gables going to be filles in with wood or glass would be awsome light
Barbara
If I had a table with a view like yours I put the sleeping bench looking out the window.
I watched another homesteader and they scorched the bottom of poles going in the ground, they said makes them stronger. Amazing. You do such great work.
You are living my dream, enjoy, its absolutely 💯 beautiful
How far away is your workshop Shawn? Are you still sleeping there?
Haven't watched for a while…I'm wondering where Cali is
We put our ice chest into the wall and piped it to the outside for our winter fridge.
Use those woodchips to keep the paths weed free in your garden!
This is great, the way that you have thought out the utilization of the cabin to everyday life and incorporated how things are layered out while using entrances, window's even outside elements for entry in different seasons. Food source is the greatly important one and having that all prepared-on sight and stored within the cabin is great too. Good planning is critical to final application of any home. It's going to be awesome once you get it all prepared. Then you can be there to enjoy it, perhaps write a book- on showing other's how to do the same thing!! Have a great weekend and week upcoming!! Thank you for sharing.

Shawn, have a look at a reply on my previous post, it looks like a scammer.
I've also been wondering about a hydrogen engine and I wonder if there's a hydrogen engine power washer that exists. I don't know yet how the hydrogen engine works. But if that could run by itself on water and then shoot out really high pressure water, through some nozzles, then they could get some of those water wheels spinning extremely fast. Then the pulley spins faster and the alternator charges more? I have no idea what a water pump's output water pressure is compared to what a hydrogen engine's power washer output pressure would be but I figure that would be more than the water pump. There's huge water pumps but that's not for a small area water wheel turbine set up.
A bit more show and less talk … a picture tells a thousand words!
Thanks for the tour .
He can sleep as late as he wants cause his wife pays for his life
Great explanation Shawn on future amenities and rooms. Lot's to do and it will ALL be GORGEOUS!!! Missed seeing Cali this time she is such a little sweetie and so pretty LOL. Thank you for another great video. God's blessings to you all.
I think the worst environment for trying to get electricity off grid may be where you live where the winters are longer and the sky could be covered and I don't know how much wind moves through there to use a wind turbine that works enough. Water freezes. All electric power systems can fail for too long in winter up there. One solution may involve heating a large water tank during the whole winter snow season with fire wood I guess keeping the water in that tank liquid and some cycling pump hydro electric system going in circles as water stays pumping out of the tank and flowing back into it at the same time. Reservoir or tank. I'm just learning this stuff but I think I have come to understand how it works somewhat . The Solar probably wont work in winter with snow cloud cover alot. If you think wind power would work You would know better since you're living there. Maybe those blades could freeze too getting ice on them. So I still like the heated water reservoir idea cycling a hydro system somewhere heated. inside.
Well done Mr. James, well done! I just came upon your channels two weeks ago and I've been consumed with them, telling everyone about them. Then my first thought when I saw this video this morning was my heart started rapidly pumping because I thought, what's left for him to build now! But then you shared your future wonderful, thought provoking plans with us, and shoot, we have many, many more videos to look forward to escaping with you. Be safe out there especially with the Farmers Almanac forecast of Canada expecting 14 winter storms this winter. Take care.
Thank you for the current cabin tour, Shawn and explaining about your future plans. Lots to enjoy as you make progress.
I would put the ice chest in the mud room. That would keep your counters nice and level.
Is there no man portable well drilling equipment to drill that well in the basement? Seems there must be something out there for the application? Water pressure based drilling seems to be the most likely with 4' pipe segments?
Gorgeous ❤
Love to hear your vision of the place you want to enjoy for many years to come. Canadian history my friend!
This is your , how many now that you have built ?
I had a lot of use of the “sun position” app for showing me where the sun is during the day and true the whole year, maybe somebody can use it too ☺️
