Funchal Market Night (Noite de Mercado) is the most special night of the year.
Walk with us in Madeira through Funchal Market Night at Christmas 2022 and see Funchal at its Christmas best. Locals and tourists alike gather at the Mercado dos Lavradores (Funchal fruit and vegetable market) is a place to go Christmas shopping in Funchal for Christmas food and is a gathering point on 23rd December as it is Market Night.
Bars, restaurants and food/drink stalls stay open to the early hours to serve local delicacies such as ‘carne-de-vinho-alhos’ – pork steeped in wine and garlic and served in a roll or Bolo de Caco. You can wash it down with a local Coral beer, or there’s always a good Poncha to be found.
Located in the heart of old town Funchal, the “Mercado dos Lavradores” (Farmer´s Market) was built to provide the islands inhabitants with a central location to buy and sell local products. It’ houses not just Funchal’s fruit and vegetable market but also the Funchal fish market.
