Is it over are you going to travel internationally in 2022. We have lost two years of travel at the healthiest time of our retirement. We are going to try and travel internationally and remain cautious and take personal responsibility for our own health. Cruising is very tempting as the cruise lines are limiting occupancy to around fifty percent capacity or less.
We are thinking about starting off with domestic travel like the Canadian Via Rail train trip to Halifax Nova Scotia from Toronto on a sleeper train. The other ambition we is to go to Portugal next winter and possibly spend Christmas in The Algarve.
The advantage of Christmas in The Algarve is that we could take a Mediterranean cruise in the first week of December from Barcelona then travel to The Algarve for a month or two.
What are your plans for travel in 2022 are you going to brave international travel? Please leave your comments and let us all share our views on retirement travel in 2022.

Tina that top looks gorgeous on you!
Starting to look at travel planning here too. Being in Calgary, most likely heading west to Vancouver Island to start. Stay safe and enjoy 💕
I love your channel Tina and Norm!!! Its one of my favorite channels. Have a great week! 🎆👍🏻💯
Philippines Yehey.. You will love it here….
We are staying in Australia for the next couple of years as we have a caravan to make travel easy and inexpensive and my elderly parents have been ill. We have 2025 pencilled in for overseas travel. Rising fuel costs will start to have an effect on air travel soon and organising a hire car is very hard as a lot of the rental companies reduced their stock during Covid and now cannot purchase new vehicles.
Hi Tina & Norm, we are from NZ and would love to meet you for coffee if you do make it down this way ! We could also share some of our favourite spots to visit. Looking forward to your travel videos 🙂
Part of the fun is getting the info on the deals and evaluating the options. (i.e. cruises vs. train trips). The wife and I are not sure yet on what to do but thanks for giving us ideas.
Hey there T and N, I. noticed on the right side of your clip you have a donation link, youtube pays for all transfer fees as well. Right on Youtube! I just donated $100 Canadian !💛😍$💯🇨🇦. Thank you Tina and Norm for letting us know of a trustworthy fund, Sunflower of Peace to donate for humanitarian Ukraine! So disturbing knowing civilians are being shot at and killed, and all the pets, and animals that are suffering. In Ukraine we hope!
Thanks, Tina and Norm. You were one of the first to inspire me about Portugal. Guess what!? Today I arrived in Lisbon with my D-7 visa! It was a long slog. I had to retire, sell my house and nearly everything I owned, and apply. Now I'm here! Thanks for the inspiration!
Getting away to Nova Scotia for your first trip sounds like a great idea for all of the reasons you mentioned. The VIA RAIL train to Vancouver has been on my bucket list for years. I would like to stop off at Bannf if that is not much more expensive to do so. Personally, after watching several videos (pre-pandemic) about cruises on Royal Caribbean it looked like a giant "Walmart crowd at sea" 😱🤣. Obviously, many people like that atmosphere but it would drive me totally bonkers. Just way too crowded, long lines for everything, etc. Maybe that won't be true nowadays. I will be looking forward to watching your upcoming programs in order to see what adventures you will be enjoying. Take care and have a pleasant and rewarding week. 👍🤗❤✈🙏🌎
I just love this channel. You two are great!
Glad the restrictions are being lifted and a more normal life can be enjoyed. Spent the winter in AZ and Baja Mexico. BEST winter EVER!
Hi Tina and Norm, Transatlantic Cruises are amazing especially if you like days at sea. I have a house in Sao Miguel Azores (not yet retired) we go about 3 times a year. We love Portugal. One of our favorites to visit is Nazarre and Obidos. Two very different yet unique places to visit. Enjoy your travels. ❤
Do you consider the environmental impact of cruising when you chose a cruise?
You guys are way cuter when you don’t read from a cue card – this video makes me think you’re reading something.
What about Europeans coming to Canada? Have they taken all the restrictions away, for coming in ?
Everytime you drop a video it’s always a blast..powerful,thorough and Clean keep It up
For goodness sake, don't wait, get out there and travel now! There's far too much fear mongering from the media and gov't in Canada regarding C-19. Much of the media even play scary dramatic music before they talk about C-19, really?! Much of the world is already open. We are fully vaccinated and left Canada in January for SE Asia. I'm so glad we did. Been here traveling since. It's been awesome. Sure, you still have to wear masks, practice good hygiene and social distancing, but the hotels, restaurants, beaches, activities, everything is open. It's +30 C, and more importantly we don't hear all the crap about C-19 you get back home 😮😥😧😟😬
I can see sparks in your eyes when talking about traveling again! Happy and Safe Traveling in 2022 and on!
We have been travelling since last July and feel totally safe. We will always wear a mask on a plane, as we always seem to pick up a cold when flying. We have been housesitting since we retired a couple of years ago which has been a fantastic experience. It has taken us all over the world.
I agree with you both, it really boils down to personal responsibility. I traveled twice in 2021. My first trip was to the Riviera Maya in Mexico. The next trip was a move from southern tip of Mexico to Baja California Sur. Each time I made the choice to take personal safety precautions to protect myself and others. I plan to take more short trips across Mexico in 2022.
Hi Norm and Tina, we just discovered your videos a couple days ago and watched several of them over the weekend. In one of them you said you purchased travel insurance from TD when your complementary BMO MasterCard insurance ran out. Can you tell me why you bought it from TD and not from BMO?
We just returned from 3 months in Lagos, Portugal , we rented a car by the week when needed. We used Luz cars and they were $120 euros a week, liability etc included. We left when travel restrictions were lifted and once there decided to stay when things changed. The Portuguese did a great job of keeping Covid restrictions in place. We visited a lot of places you recommended! Thanks for all the great advice.
Hi Tina & Norm, I have returned from my 2 1/2 month trek across Europe during the peak of Omicron – Lisbon & the entire Algarve (Portugal), Seville (Spain), Amsterdam (Netherlands), Brussels (Belgium), London (UK), Paris (France) – 6 countries in total. Adhering strictly to safe protective measures: vaxxed, masked and maintaining a safe distance when possible kept me negative on the Covid front even though I was visiting these locations at the worst of times with respect to Covid outbreaks with 1 in every 13 being actively affected while I was there. Glad to see you are opening up to travelling again!
Come to Alabama and stop by for a visit. Nothing is a wonderful as the white sands of the Gulf Coast. I would love to meet y'all in person.
Exactly feeling the same here in the U.K. The testing requirements have been lifted, together with their associated costs and so we’ve booked a week in Venice (Venezia) through EasyJet, who do some great deals on flights and hotel combined. Like you guys, we’ll try and be as careful as we can be, but sooner or later you just feel you have to get away and take the plunge. Our hotel is 4 star rated and just off the Piazza San Marco, so ideal for visiting the Basilica and the Palazzo Ducale (Doge’s Palace). Can’t wait! Pandemic aside, another concern obviously is the terrible war in Ukraine and any escalation, but life is always uncertain Isn’t it? Have fun guys whatever you decide to do.
My favorite couple!!! Kisses…Awwww Ms. Tina you look good as always. 🍷 Mr.Norm, you rocking your youth look very well.
I'd still love to know your car rental guy in Faro is you're willing to share.
Are you still considering spending 6 months of the year in the Algarve?
I agree with your approach of taking personal responsibility, and that is what my wife and I continue to do.
We really can't wait much longer. Having spent three weeks in Puerto Morelis in November/December last, we have now booked airfare and accommodation, heading off for a month between Belgium (7th visit), Luxembourg (1st) and France (3rd). We just have to book the car soon.
Good luck with your decision process.
Roger
We are Filipino-Canadians and we are planning to go to the Philippines this April-May.
Thank goodness. I was feeling guilty booking our Panama cruise and leaving you two behind not knowing if you had booked somewhere. So glad you both have your travelling boots strapped on. Took a day trip to Kincardine. Left St Thomas sunny and 16C and drove to Kincardine no sun chilly and 3C ugh..wrong decision for today, very fresh🤣🤣 but a great drive.
BACK TO NORMAL ,STAY HEALTHY SO YOU CAN ENJOY TRAVELLING ,LOVE PORTUGAL .
Once again we enjoyed another one of your videos Our Future Plans 2022. You mentioned the Philippines. Go. We have been twice. I highly recommend Cathay Pacific airlines it is really worth it. Since we had to stop in Hong Kong to refuel, we took advantage and stayed in Hong Kong for a week. Also worth it since you’re going to be there anyway. Philippines very inexpensive. But also super hot so go in our winter months. We learned that Norman is from Scotland. That is our next trip in June and very much looking forward to that. We are then going to be looking at the Algarve based on all of your stories about that area of Portugal. We enjoyed Portugal but did not get to the Algarve. Husband and I tease ourselves about sitting down to watch Our friends Tina and Norm. Thumbs up.
I am sure that you must some thoughts about the current situation and maybe could you let us know them re Ukraine. I think not traveling too far from home is a good idea. Please stay safe in these crazy times we live in.
You trade marked “this is our retirement?”
Just thought that you guys would want to know that we traveled from the US to Albufeira today and went to Pingo Doce for dinner where it cost us a whopping 11 euros. So cheap. We even sat there and role played you guys…we liked it didn’t we Norm, yes we did Teen
We sometimes forget that not everyone has unlimited data or phones, etc., and even my friend who lives in France, he uses an app to send messages. Tina and Norm, I just like to mention that it is good to have more than one way to send messages and phone calls when away from the area we live in. Just something I had never thought of but when I go to France someday I want to be able to send messages and texts from France back to Canada without costing an arm and a leg. And as well have your phone numbers written down somewhere in case one loses their cell phone as believe it or not, I know very few telephone numbers of my contacts as I don't even think about it.
Just food for thought.
We are definitely headed to our home in England in May. But we are ALSO hoping to visit friends on continental Europe in September… and see some "bucket list" places for the first time! We can all enjoy planning, but we don't know what the pandemic, or any conflicts in part of the world, might do to our plans. I actually just posted a video Friday about our plans. Meanwhile, I just pray that the conflict in Ukraine settles down very soon… 🙏
On a lighter note, I would NOT sit on a bus for 24 hours to go to Florida or anywhere! I hope you get to Portugal. Thanks for the lovely video as always. Cheers! XX Dara
Just got home from a 2 week cruise. It was amazing and we felt safe. ArrivCan was a bit confusing but we figured it out.
It’s not over until we can travel to any country without having to prove our medical status. 😡
You two have inspired us to get going on out trips, I can't retire for two more years but me and my boyfriend are getting going. We have a trip planned to Germany and Austria with the 2 oldest teen grandaughters this summer. Then my friend and I have a tour booked with Rick Steves for 7 days in Paris in October. There are many things going on in the world right now but I don't want to wit to get going. Best Wishes on your plans!
Hi, we’re in the Algarve all month of March. Will you be here? We’d love to meet you and buy you a drink!
My wife and I have been traveling throughout the pandemic here in the USA. The best time to travel was in the early days of the pandemic when hotel proces were cheap and traffic was light. Traveling now is much harder, to decipher what individual businesses are requiring masks or not. One more week of travel heading home to California, then off to Asia for good.
Good plan to stay in the country with all that's going on in the world these days… baby steps for sure. I like the suggestion below of heading west to Vancouver Island…it's paradise out there… especially around Pacific Rim national park. Keep well, cheers ….🇨🇦♥️🇺🇦🍻
We are currently on a 21 day Caribbean Holland America cruise. The ship holds 2660 passengers and only has 876 passengers on. HAL is being very cautious, slowly increasing their capacity. The crew is at almost full numbers, which has made it a very wonderful cruise!! They already had a tremendous cleaning protocol. They have stepped it up even more. Now is an amazing time to cruise!!
