Global National: July 16, 2022 | Canadian summer temperatures climb up with heat waves, forest fires

Many Canadians are seeking air-conditioning this weekend as temperatures climb into the 30 degrees Celsius, prompting heat warnings for parts of AB, MB, SK and ON. In BC, the forest fire have been raging, destroying homes, with a number of evacuation orders now in place. Abigail Bimman takes a look at how Canadians are dealing with the first major heatwave of the summer and what we can expect for the rest of the summer.

As travel restrictions fall away, Canadians’ desire to travel has taken off. From April to June, Service Canada received more than 808,000 applications for passports. That surge has led to a massive backlog, with many Canadians wondering if they’ll have their documents in time. Shallima Maharaj has the latest.

U.S. President Joe Biden has wrapped up his four-day visit to the Middle East, assuring the region’s nations that America will stand by them as Russia wages war against Ukraine and China threatens Indo-Pacific security. The president held talks with leaders from several Mideast nations, and came away with a promise for more oil production as U.S. gas prices remain at a historic high. Jennifer Johnson has more.

Russian forces are keeping up their barrage of artillery and missile attacks, targeting civilian infrastructure in eastern Ukrainian cities. In the early days of the invasion, Russian soldiers were ordered to fire on civilians travelling on a roadway. But one woman who was shot at survived because some soldiers did not follow through with the order. In turn, she saved a Russian soldier’s life when he got shot. Sean O’Shea reports.

Finally, the star-studded Calgary Stampede is wrapping up this weekend and by all accounts, it’s been a success. Crowds were close to pre-pandemic levels and even rising inflation didn’t put a damper on people’s spending. The Stampede has gone off without a hitch, except for another horse death that animal rights advocates are calling out. Tracy Nagi has more.

  1. James 5;7 Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain.
8 Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.
9 Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest ye be condemned: behold, the judge standeth before the door.
10 Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience.
11 Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.
12 But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.
13 Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms.
14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:
15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.
16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
17 Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.
18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.
    19 Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him;
20 Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.
Matthew 18: 19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.
20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

  2. It’s been 50 years since the 1972 Stockholm conference, and there have been so many climate conferences until today. All talk and no or little action. In the meantime, it seems to have become too late, with things getting only worse and worse.

Everything has a point of no return. And the climate crisis may well have already reached its tipping point. All we can do now is to try to mitigate the impact just like a driver who, when knowing a crash is unavoidable, tries to minimize the damage by braking and steering.

  3. _Every financial goal requires patience, dedication and consistent spirit knowing that investment is currently the most lucrative business in the world, BTC is positively changing people's lives. I stopped panicking about my BTC the very moment I started working with Kennet Gibbs last year, his confidence and skills is on a maximum level.

  4. Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples:
"The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. So you must be careful to do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach. They tie up heavy cumbersome loads and put them on other people’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them. Everything they do is done for people to see: They make their phylacteries wide and the tassels on their garments long; they love the place of honor at banquets and the most important seats in the synagogues; they love to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces and to be called ‘Rabbi’ by others.
But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi,’ for you have one Teacher, and you are all brothers. And do not call anyone on earth ‘father,’ for you have one Father, and he is in heaven. Nor are you to be called instructors, for you have one Instructor, the Messiah. The greatest among you will be your servant. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted".

YOU SHALL NOT MAKE FOR YOURSELF AN IMAGE in the form of anything, in Heaven above or in the Earth beneath, or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them, or worship them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents, up to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me, and keep my commandments.

If my people who are called by my name, humble themselves and pray, AND TURN FROM THEIR WICKED WAYS, I will hear from Heaven, will forgive their sins, and will heal their land.

AND WHEN YOU PRAY DO NOT BE LIKE THE HYPOCRITES, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners, to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.
BUT WHEN YOU PRAY, GO INTO YOUR ROOM, close the door, and pray to your Father who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need, before you ask him.

This, then, is how you should pray:

    Our Father in heaven,
    hallowed be your name,
    your kingdom come,
    your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
    And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.

For if you forgive other people when they sin against you,
your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
But if you do not forgive others their sins,
your Father will not forgive your sins.

    These are the teachings,
The Righteousness of our Lord Jesus Christ our God.
REPENT, and start doing what is right.
    If you abide my teachings, you are really my disciples;
then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.

Yet a time is coming and has now come
when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in Truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.
GOD IS SPIRIT, so his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in Truth.

In the New Heaven and the New Earth,
    only Righteousness dwells.
May the Spirit of our Lord Jesus Christ our God be with you all.

  5. I talk to people from all around the world. Sometimes when I hear their stories of what life is like where they are from, it makes me happy I live in Canada. Iv had my hard times in life but I know my worst days would be a good day for others. So I try not to despair too much.

I love Canada and the people who live here.

  6. Fixed income here in ontario is about 969$ a month. at it's highest is 1100$ or so. Where in that budget can you find any wiggle room. People on fixed income live in LEGISLATIVE POVERTY. It's called poverty for a reason. People who have the priviledge to say "cut something out" "budget something differently" have never lived on a fixed income.

  7. Pretty damn sad when a Canadian city, make its international name based on torturing animals. F alberta, Canada's version of Alabama except more racist and less educated

  8. We just came back from Europe where heatwave is real. Here in BC is not hot at all….maybe the rest of the country is suffering but here in Vancouver is like November!!!! Lytton wildfire is not due because the heat for sure……stop telling bulls…t dear media puppets

  9. I heard if the fires are at extreme size like, its not worth the fight, the money flows out in billions and people loose life's. If they are this big they gone distingish them selfs like 100 years ago and earlier. Just leave and comeback after to rebuild safely.

  10. So the answer is to start a “side gig” and work 7 days a week around the clock to make up for all the money that was payed out to Covid money that was burned for the past two years. Thanks for the advice global we all feel so much better ! 👍

  11. I don't know what to tell you, but in Quebec city, I've had one of the mildest summers I can remember. Usually by mid-July, I NEED an A/C for two weeks of wet heat. Not this year. I only had two hellish days in my restaurant kitchen this summer.
I FEEL for those extreme-heat places. I litteraly melt and stop functionning in that environment. Wish all of them some good chilling oportunities and good health. And familles and friends that care for each other.
I have HBP and Afib this year (Thanks to covid ), so I REALLY don't wan't to live this. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed and wish everyone to pull through this.
What we REALLY don't need, are even more ranters, blame-shifters or conspiracy idiots to make a bad time even worst and play on peoples' already sky-high stress levels.

  12. Seriously this woman and her go get a side gig. Ridiculous for a disabled senior on OAS and CPP. The notion that people have a fixed income of $4000 a month. That is not the case for many seniors where they struggle with OAS CPP and in some provinces like Alberta there’s a seniors benefit. To me her advice was ridiculous
