You should be able use the strimmer as long as you use the string only, not a metal blade. Also, if you are in your own garden that should be exempt. That regulation is for causing sparks in the forest or farmland areas. The locals in every village seem to have a different viewpoint.

That rule of no strimming Day sounds quite strange since it seems that hazard of fire is bigger with overgrown grass

You are making the right choice. I came home from my job to take care of my parents. I stayed for 20 years because my brother would not help. I am so grateful for that time with them. I got to know much about them that I would never have found out and it really is a blessing to be with your parents. My parents were older than yours and i was with both of them at the end. I kept them home and out of the hospital and I am thankful for that. The only really important thing in life is our family. As you get older your realize that more and more! Your project will be there when you return. There will always be projects in life and more jobs in life but you only have one family so enjoy it while you can.
