In Portugal, more specifically in the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine coast natural park, greenhouses are now covering an approximate area of 16 km2 and within current regulations this number can expand up to 30 km2. Given the fact that this is a protected area, nature should have remained a priority. However due to relatively flexible law and regulations, the intensive agriculture enterprise is thriving in the region disregarding the collateral damage that is inflicted over the already existing environment. These problems include lack of water, biodiversity loss, forest fires, ground water pollution, drought and more.
As a part of a workshop at the Faculty of Architecture in VUT Brno we visited the region and got acquainted with the problematic. This video illustrates one of the potential solutions we came up with to the problematics affecting the natural park.
