Hidden paradise in Portugal, Milfontes- A Visit During COVID and the Off-season-Xpat Travel & Life

Milfontes rests along the wild Atlantic Coast of Portugal between Lisbon and the Algarve. Bordered by the river Mira, miles of sand dunes, natural preserves, and the ocean, this is a nature lovers paradise. It is located about an hour’s drive from the main toll road which keeps this historical town from getting too crowded, especially in the non-summer months and during COVID also. As an expat in Portugal you can travel through the country if you follow the rules. Wear a mask and be courteous and you will be well rewarded by happy travel industry staff. Cheers and happy travels.

  1. The way u said Milfontes on 19: 07 is better than when u repeat for the second time. You don't need to stress the S as much, because if you do sounds artificial 👍👍

  2. Hi Veronica! My husband and I were going on a scouting trip to Portugal back in March that had to be canceled and are eager to reschedule our visit to Portugal I stumbled across your YouTube channel and got very excited. We also lived in orange county California and the San Luis Obispo area for years. We are now in The mountains of North Carolina, but are still considering a move overseas. We tried out moving to Belize and Costa Rica but they weren’t the right fit for us. Portugal looks like it might have all of what we are looking for! I am in the process of looking into my ancestry for dual passports, since I have German and Hungarian grandparents. But it seems pretty complicated and Covid has certainly changed a lot of things. Hoping to connect with you on Facebook and maybe pick your brain a little. This video was very enjoyable as it reminded me of Los Osos on the central coast where we used to live. Thanks for all the videos you’ve posted. I am looking forward to going through more of them in the next few days. 😁

  3. Lovely video… I do love to watch videos that are not rushed and lovingly voiced over. I so appreciate the bits of history and points of interest. Cheers & Obrigada ~

  4. The town where I spent my hollidays during my childhood and as a teenager. My grand parents had a house there (shown at 1.10 min). It changed quite a lot since then. The dunes used to be huge until they decided to build the road up to the lighthouse. There wasn't even a bridge linking both margins of the Mira river.
Thank you for this kind video of this place that is so dear to me.

  5. Hello Veronica! I hope you and your husband are great! My name`s Duarte, I am from Porto and I am watching, loving your videos because you are in Vila Real de Santo António, where I passed my holidays childhood. Veronica You must visit Évora is near where you are and you are going to love it. "I hope" You`ve got the Megalithic Circuit and the Capela do ossos "bones chapel" which freaked me out when I got there for the first time. All the best for you! 😊💪💪💪

  6. Thanks for your video and introducing me to Milfontes. What a charming village! We've been researching the Eastern Algarve and the Silver Coast as areas to immigrate to sometime in 2021, and we also included Alentejo, but at first glance it didn't seem as interesting, but we'll give it a second look. Proximity to Lisbon, but not too close, and a warmer climate in winter, are our main wants. 🙂

  7. We are American Citizens that have been in Scotland for the past few months. We are trying to move to Portugal but having trouble getting a visa. Do have any recommendations to get there soon?
