There are certainly things to know before coming to Germany and after moving to Germany, every expat in Germany can tell you that in many ways, life in Germany is not what Americans imagine “life in Europe” to be like. There are easy European and easy german stereotypes that people make all the time, but how do they compare or contrast to each other?? 😊

❤️Aubrey was a Speech-Language Pathologist, Donnie was a graphic designer, but we both had a dream to #travel the world and experience cultures. After three years of being married and dreaming about if something like this great adventure would be possible, we decided to quit the rat race and take on the world. We sold everything we had, quit our jobs, and took off! After 9 months of aimless and nonstop travel, we now get to fulfill our dreams of #LivingAbroad as #expats as we move to #Germany!

Busting stereotypes is one of our favorite parts of travel and living in a foreign country! It helps us grow, opens our eyes to more world views, and helps us understand other cultures better! What stereotypes have you found to not be true about certain countries or cultures?
In the Bremen area we call the last or first slice of a loaf of bread Knust. K-noost
In northern Germany the end piece of a loaf of bread is called Knust…and, my favorite part
That intro made me laugh 😉
I call the end slice Knust (Schleswig-Holstein)
I never understood why our german cuisine is so… well.. seens as bland n stuff.. we dont use a lot of spices in terms of hot or something, but we still season our stuff and most is actually so damn good xD
🤣🤣🤣 omg! so funny!
I know that in Southern Europe they eat pretty late and I'm guessing in Northern Europe they eat pretty early
My Grandma told me in regards of your daily meals: „Esse morgens wie ein Kaiser, Mittags wie ein König und abends wie ein Bettelmann.“ (Eat in the morning like an emperor, at noon like a king and in the evening like a poor man)
Our „Dinner“ at the evening was traditionally not a warm meal. 😊
If left Germany 1987 to various countries and kissing was not popular but handshake was compulsory. Living in Brazil kissing was very popular. Living in Turkey no kissing and no handshake. Living in Indonesia no kissing and no handshake. Now retired in the Philippines l prefer the Indonesian way no kissing but sometimes handshake. German food is as good as the cook cook's it. When l see how much frozen and can food you can buy in Germany many people don't know how to cook because they choose the easy way. I don't like in general restaurant food and l love to cook my own stuff after retirement.
Scherzl or Bugl.
8:10 "Germany is kind of in a transitional period where fashion is more and more valued"
What? I mean, sorry, but this statement is crazy. Where did you get that from? ROFL!
True is: Germany was very fashion conscious in the past, but finally the generations currently determining the public appearance liberated themselves from any social pressure that comes with fashion and couldn't care less. I don't see the power of fashion over people's lives and decisions coming back any time soon.
The Covid triggered home office waves made fashion even less important in everyday life.
Germany 🇩🇪, I respect, deeply respect Germany 🇩🇪… I'm from South Asia, Punjab and being from endia, it's good you support Endia for permanent seat at UN security council…I cheer your support but, don't you see what is the consequence of this!!?? How can Germany 🇩🇪 be so stupid having IQ at top 10 but doing shitty things like Brazil?? Once endia gets permanent membership, it's game over for Europe, USA, East Asian countries like Japan and other high lAtitude countries! Endia has growing RSS HINDUTVA NAZI REGIME supported by government itself which says endia is the origin of all countries they want to expand so called unbreakable Endia with southeast Asia, Afghanistan Pakistan and many other countries…they have resources, they have population, they even have high lAtitude evolved intelligent people… don't you imagine what can be the result?? You are doomed…look at your raw imports… it's clear Germany doesn't have any resources… nor population like tropical countries..only thing you have is evolved people with high IQ and endia has that too…you are killing yourself… instead, what you should do is take up swords, construct deep earth mining industry, do fusion technology as fast as possible…start expanding space mining…invade and expand to the tropics…spread your ideology and intelligence…make yourself once again a superpower…. increase your population… dominate the global mining industry!! please!! Otherwise you will go extinct just like Neanderthals 😵
To make it more confusing: here in the Netherlands we give 3 kisses as a greeting instead of the usual 2. And only to people that are close to us although it's becoming less and less common, especially sinds covid.
Dinner time is at 6 pm, sometimes even earlier. And we're also not known for our delicious cuisine. I've seen many Dutch B&B's and campgrounds abroad, but never a restaurant. There must be a reason.
The Dutch aren't very fashionable either (I would say more than Germans though). Our clothes must be practical enough to cycle through wind and rain.
As for the random question of the week: I call that a "kapje".

I never had a term for the end of the bread loaf until I inherited my housemate's term intentionally: bread butt. Because my humor is sometimes sophomoric and I find that term entertaining.
