  1. Well, time has answered this video really fast. Portugal was clearly lucky to have neighbouring countries had thier pandemic start sooner so they had more time to react and adjust. Prove to that is that nowadays the statistics are very similar in Portugal and Spain. It may be even worse if we take into account Spain is much more international and had its pandemic started up to a month earlier, in the times we knew nothing about it and spreaded incredibly fast.

  2. Hahaha I'm here some months later. Why don't you make a follow up video, huh? Portugal is having another wave now. The Prime minister was forced to admit that eternal lockdown was just not possible and eased up stuff. The government now is making just retarded rules.
Weekends most shops are forced to close at 13. Can you see what's wrong with this? (Hint: because there's less time to go there it means everybody is going before 13 instead of spread through the day, wich means everything gets freaking huge lines, wich we all know is great to avoid covid 🙂 )
We're not looking the best rn.

  3. This video is now ironic.
Me, as a portuguese, getting this suggested now on the second waves, when this is no longer true and we are dealing terribly with it, and it will probably be shit now.
Our politicians are idiots, they dealt very well with the first wave, and they are being complete idiots now. They are neither saving the economy nor health.
Plus, people share articles about how sweeden doesn't have the same rules as us, and how they don't even mandate a mask, but they keep forgetting sweedish people will respect recommendations, while we, if it is not forbidden and enforced by a fine, we will not do it we will say "oh, it is just a recommendation, fuck it".

I don't know, but our government is taking random decisions, that don't even make sense, that is causing people to instead of behaving better, relaxing, because why should i not be with my friends if the F1 is DGS approved, and filled with unknown people next to each other. In march i'd be criticized because i went out on a bike ride, alone, in the middle of the mountains, now people are gathering in large groups as if nothing was happening

  4. "when the obvious priority is the health emergency" – It's not the only priority and it's understandable that people feel the price we're going to pay (no, not the politicians, the tax payers) is too high.

  5. Lack of scientific explanation. Populations tend to behave in a similar manner. You cannot explain such differences in mortality rate with your arguments. Where then? Well, BCG vaccine for starting. 🙂

  6. Wow, portugal's parties are coming together to fight this, it's funny how in lots of countries politician
are questioning and bashing the president/PM for their decision

  7. This is three months late, but, there's a very important factor you forgot when comparing Spain and Portugal.

Spain's hardest hit region is the mountainous Pyrenees(just as Italy was hit worst in the Alps, Germany in Bavaria, France in Alsace, Iran in the Zagros mountains etc).

We know from years of study on respitorial viral infections that climate and season plays a big part in it, and so shouldn't be surprised when we see these trends in Covid-19 either. And Portugal simply doesn't have a region with a climate comparable to the Pyrenees.

I'm not saying the things mentioned in this video aren't important, and isn't also fectors in this comparison. But it is still dangerous to make too many political assumptions on something that's not entirely determined by political actions. I see the same with peolpe glorifying Sweden's approach by comparing Sweden with densly populated "hugging-cultures" like Italy, France and Spain, when Sweden undeniably keep social distancing unintentionally by their Scandinavian cultural behaviour. It's very hard to compare countries, and what they are doing, and which approach is best or not, if you do not consider all of the factors involved.

  8. Portugal is also a small country. It isn't a huge destination for international travel, and there isn't a lot of internal commuting between cities as there's really only one big metropolitan area.

  9. If Portugal is such a great developed country, why do so many Portuguese people still emigrate to rich Northern European countries? I don't understand. Can we agree that Portugal is a developed country but poor? What's your opinion?

  10. You should really re-think how you title your videos tbh. This video is 99% how Portugal has handled the pandemic – fair enough, a very interesting topic and well explained and everything. It is not, however, a video comparing how it has handled it in comparison to Spain. There are hardly any details of how Spain has handled the pandemic so it surely can't be titled as a comparison between both countrie's handling of it? Just make sure the title actually describes what the video is about.

Similarly, I've seen other videos where a question is posed in the title and the whole video is spent explaining something (tbf, on the topic of the question) but the question is ultimately not answered or just mentioned at the end and left as an open question. I don't know, this doesn't seem correct.

  11. Because Spain has Fernando Simón in charge of the pandemic, a genius who said that there was no problem in having demonstrations of thousands of people while Italy was putting under lockdown a quarter of its population.

  12. We were already doing a lock down before the government order it. People were scared with what was happening in Italy and Spain, so everyone started to pressure to close the country, by staying at home and working at home. This began 1 week before the state of emergency was declared.
Now cases and deaths are low but there are still some, mainly in some parts of Greater Lisbon
Still, with all the mistakes and errors made here, I think we are doing a good job

  13. I appreciate this channel but this video was not very informative. The main argument to explain Portugals success is a state of emergency was in place from the 18th. Schools and the state of emergency were in place in Spain by the 14th of March (and it was already well too late). Also detection of cases at that time was dependent on being able to test or even "start" testing. I also do not understand the very low numbers from Germany. Living in Spain I see 3 key worsening factors but I still cannot understand such disparities: 1: Tourism and travel – 2: Demonstration on the 8th of March – 3: Extremely incompetent management of residences for elderly people (probably half the deceased?) by local governments. But in Spain due to incompetence, in the UK for example it was premeditated cleansing with established written policies to do so). Big problem in Spain are some REALLY cerebrally challenged amoebas that don't follow basic advice even now, but plenty of those in the rest of Europe (non-spaniards), so why such huge disparities? Some people will argue ignorant stereotypes, still not enough.
