How I live Below the Poverty Line Comfortably

I think the first reaction a video like this is, oh oh Tommy is must be struggling, things are not looking good. You know you call the kids, and say you see what happens with youtubers. But I reality to be able to live the way I do below the poverty line is not as easy as it sounds, and when I say below, I really mean below.

According to Google to qualify that you live below the poverty line you have to have an income of $12,880 for one Person (( and I remember living in New York with my mom and we were above the poverty line by $3000-4000 dollars meaning we low-key poor but we made it work ). I can live off 973.75 which means I live on less than 12k a year.

However this interesting because I live better than the average American will ever live, and I don’t say to show but I want to show you what’s possible. I have a paid off Car, Paid Off House and I make in passive income 12k a year if I want to make the money stretch 33 years and If I just wanted to ball outta control I could take 3X more than I need and not run out of money for lone time. I have someone clean my house and do my laundry, and even have someone do my lawn( and when I go to super market I buy the ultra strong toilet paper, so you know I’m rich )

1. House/Apartment ( my biggest Obstacle )

I knew that if I stayed in New York I would have to pay $1200 for an apartment and if I wanted to buy something I was looking into nearly a half a million dollar investments

So relocating was a big obvious sign for me

I was going to go to Florida, Texas or Puerto rico

Here I Puerto Rico:

You can buy an apartment for 50-100k and you can buy a good house for 100k-200k

Or you can rent for $500-$1200

So I had saved up nearly 200k I bought a home for 130k remodeled it and I have no mortgage and since its my first property I pay no taxes ( so It only cost $300 a month to main this property Cleaning, Lawn Care and insurance I have to go shop around for it )

3. Utilities ( a lot of people pay to much attention to the small things )

I know people that just to save money on Gas, light bills sign up for 60k in debt

They buy solar panels for 30k and buy a tesla for 30k ( and I’m like you saved $300 bucks a month to pay 60k ) okay that’s stupid

So my strategy is simple, I’m not wasteful and I used energy efficient appliance

So between everything I spend: $313.75 on utilities

I know people that spend that much on a phone bill ( ps my phone bill is $40 bucks a month, I have tmobile with some friends)

3. Groceries

My budget use to $200 a month but then inflation came in and honestly I like spending some extra money on quality food

So Increase my budget to $300 a month

And sometimes I might spend $20-$50 bucks going out with friends once a week or every other week

So the big thing here is: I cook at home and I don’t spend a ton of money going out and uber eating everyday ( I tried uber eats for a week and I was spending 20-30 a day, and I said that’s 900 bucks a month )

4. Transportation

Like I said my car is better than most

I get 50miles a gallon

Its paid off and its sexy ( I drive a 2014 prius )

So I spend about $40 bucks on gas and $20 on car washes a month ( insurance is one time payment of $200 a year here )

Honestly I wont be living below the poverty line for much longer

I have to shop around for health insurance again which will be $130 a month

  1. Not really what I am trying to do. I am living like that right now (living with parents) and I am 20 right now, but my end goal is to have enough money, investments and other assets to be able to live a lavish life without going broke. Fast cars are my passion so you won't see me in a prius 😅 but everyone has their own dream life, I appreciate the hustle.

  2. I paid off everything.. house, car, everything. I would get rid of the car too, but I live in a suburban area with no public transportation. basics are @550 a month (utilities vary), then add on food and gas and I am at @ 900 a month unless I have to fix something, or plan a trip or some other fun thing. With gas and utilities varying every month, it's impossible to get an exact figure. I am having a long time friend move in and she will be paying 400 of that 550 so that will free up even more cash. I am almost 60 and not really into banking it anymore. I want to enjoy life now. I became debt free in order to quit a job that had become a huge burden. 40 hours a week and it was playing havoc on my body. Healthcare pays well, but it's not good for your own health!! Now I do 'consulting' about 1 week a month. Better pay, travel is covered and I have the rest of the month to do what I want. For any young people reading this… travel and enjoy life while you are young!! When you get older there are too many things that prevent it.

  3. Not everyone can live at their parents house to save up money….so I'll take this with a grain of salt. Could you use this strategy in the US? Save up to buy a house in the US?

  4. I feel u. I live way below poverty level. I have lived below my means but still lost my home then lost my childhood home and then lost my habitat for humanity home yeat I never lived below my means. I get a grand a month to live on per month. It hurts me to know I now live in a house with high taxes . 😥 It really bothers me that I lost so many houses even though I was so conservative . I mow my own lawn and my electric is about 100. I keep my ac on 82. I don't wash the car.

  5. You are living well below your means. But you are not living at the poverty line. For example, I just went to Mexico City and lived within the budget of a local person. But I was not living at their income line. Don't get it twisted.

  6. I kept saying once I get back into nursing school, and become a nurse, that I was gonna leave the US to work abroad, when the US is going thru economic crisis or war times that directly impact citizens financially.

  7. All he had to say in the first sentence is that he lived in Puerto Rico!!! He made it sound like he was doing some kind of magical trick. He moved to PR where his money goes much further than it would in the United States
