How To ESCAPE INFLATION (and lower your cost of living in places like Portugal, Ecuador & Malaysia)

Take the Ecuador Expat Fast Track eCourse and streamline your move to Ecuador! See what our students have to say here:

If you’re on a tight budget and feeling the pressure of inflation compounding an already high cost of living, you have an escape hatch at your disposal if you’re willing to do something a little unconventional.

There are several places outside the continental United States that have BOTH a lower inflation rate AND a lower cost of living. They also offer extended tourist visas and residency visas to Americans.

That means you can live a higher quality of life while spending less money, you just have to move somewhere else for awhile (or forever, like we did).

As of May 2022, when we recorded this video, here is the list of countries (and one US Territory) that are below the current inflation rate of 8.5% in the United States: Portugal, Italy, Puerto Rico, France, Thailand, Belize, Panama, Ecuador, Malaysia and Bolivia.

If we missed any that have BOTH a lower inflation rate AND a lower cost of living, plus visas that work for Americans, please share them in the comments below.

  1. Don't believe that 8.2% inlation stuff in the USA. Here in Summit County, Colorado, our home price has gone up 25% in the past year. Mortgage rates are up from 3.2% to 5.2% percent. Do the math and typical home ownership is up 58%!! Diesel (former contractor) has gone up 86% from $2.79 to $5.29. A specialty burger and beer at the local brew-pub will cost you $30 each for date night. Utilities have gone up 33% as has food. I am sure your old town of Aurora is feeling the similar pain.

  2. So happy for those that have enough income to make this dream come true. Sadly, every country's cost of living keeps rising. Not the case with a limited Social Security income.

  3. I recently saw a supreme court case about a Puerto Rican retiree who was denied SS benfits when he went back to the island from Florida or NY. I Don’t know the intricacies of it, but I think the case revolved around the idea that the US govt has the ability to deny SS benefits to anybody who moves to PR, which is NOT a state but only a territory. My point is: do your due diligence before you commit to a big move, especially if you’re seriously considering living off of your SS abroad or in PR.

  4. I love that you guys ALWAYS are helping the rest of us with a lot of information, sharing your experience, doing everything that you can to help and the more important part is that you guys are genuine and honest. A big thank you!!

  5. Great video guys. I’m in Medellin Colombia, inflation is running about 5% here but the USD exchange rate more than makes up for it. Great city living if you’re into that. Cheers!

  6. Thanks guys. I feel like I just took a mini trip around the globe)). I'm hoping to visit Ecuador and Panama later this year. The only upside to the current US inflation fiasco is investing in Treasury I-Bonds (9% return), but you're locked in for 5 yrs.

  7. Great video! We've considered several of those locations and are leaning toward Portugal at the moment. With so many viable options, it's really difficult to choose. Perhaps we'll split our time!!
    Thanks for putting that together.

  8. I request you to start a Visa business in which clients can pay you online on your website and you can arrange sticker visas for them with the help of immigration lawyer or visa agents

  9. my understanding the "real number" from the previous calculations for inflation puts it is closer to 12%. the 8.5% is a modified number for "this year only", many things that use to be included were removed to get the number down to that.

  10. Another great video. Thank you… You're helping me decide where I'm looking for my Magnolia Hotel. Belize sounds good to me with 1:1 to my NZD. But I already speak a little Malay and have friends in KL. I want great health care and Malaysian food is so good.

  11. real estate prices in many states are out of reach for many people , idk what younger generations will do without a housing-economy crash to restore costs….
