How To Identify A Fake Passport And Avoid A Romance Scam

If you are dating online, your partner may have sent you a copy of their passport to prove their identity. However, most victims accept face value
identification—a huge mistake, which puts your life savings in danger.

Photo: Is it a valid passport photo? Are they looking forward? If not, it is a fake. Are they wearing glasses? If yes, it is fake.

Background: Is the background of the photo plain white/gray? If not, it is fake. There can be no color or design in the backdrop.

USA Emblem: American passports have a USA emblem overlapping the photo. Is it there? Does it look odd, as if someone used a ballpoint pen?

The Font: Is the font used for the name and date of birth too large, or not the correct fonts? Scammers cover the name and DOB, and the fake name must be larger.

Issue & Expiration Date: If the issue date is the fifteenth of the month, the expiration day is the fourteenth. Is it a ten-year
passport?

The Two Bottom Rows of Numbers:

P(bracket)USAAHEARN(two brackets)FRANK(one bracket)MICHAEL. The brackets (are specific, after the surname; two after the given name, one. Scammers usually get this wrong.

The Bottom Row:

PASSPORT# – COUNTRY – DATE OF BIRTH – M or F

The date of birth next to the photo is DAY – MONTH – YEAR.

The date of birth on the bottom is YEAR – MONTH -DAY. Scammers almost always get this wrong.

Never take identification for face value. Never send money to someone you are dating on the internet; you will never see it again.
