Today in this video I am going to show you how to fill out and issue a recibo verde on the Finanças portal in Portugal.
If you make the decision to move to Portugal and work as a freelancer, then you will have to complete and issue a Recibo Verde. It’s the name of the invoice between buyer and seller of goods or services when you are registered as a freelancer. It also allows Finanças, the Portuguese tax authorities, to be aware of all activities. As a self-employed person in Portugal it’s possible to issue invoices online but it’s very important to fill in all the information in order to avoid fines. What information do I need to issue a recibo verde in Portugal? How to invoice customers as a freelancer?
I will show you step by step how to fill out and issue a recibo verde on the Finanças portal in Portugal.

It is ESSENTIAL that everyone knows that there are two options of "Recibo Verdes" –
1) issue a "Factura – Recibo" (this is what this session shows) BUT there is another opition i.e. OR
2) first issue a "Factura" and then, only when you get paid, do you issue a "Recibo"
This ESSENTIAL DIFFERENCE was pointed out to me by my Portuguese accountant – but when talking to the international community this KEY POINT has never ever been raised – far less clarified.
In summary:
You only issue number 1 – above – i.e. "Factura – Recibo" if you are guaranteed to get paid (or if you have already received payment).
Otherwise (just like any business in the world) you follow number 2 – above – i.e. you first issue a "Factura" and only when the cash comes in you go into to portal and issue a "recibo" against that "factura".
