We are in the middle of renovating our house in an abandoned Portuguese village. Rain seems to take a short break. Let’s continue with the work on the roof!

Stay tuned for more building content and why not hit the notification bell so you don’t miss it 😉 thanks for watching!

My name is Jasper and i bought a house in a Portuguese ghost town. Together with my dogs Zoey & Akira we show you the rebuild of our house and what it is like living the daily life in Central Portugal.

  1. So you just have an extra main switch in Portugal? Anyway. You as a 'user' can reach out to the main switch in Portugal where in Holland the main switch is sealed and only to be broken by the powercompany. Something I had 30 years ago when i did something wrong.

  2. Just realised how crazy this is. Do all the cables come back to that 4 way mains adaptor?!! Replace it with 4 individual sockets to 4 individual breakers! It would take so little cable to pay for and you could have individual sockets protected by 10amp breakers. Maybe a 16amp for the dryer if 10amps not enough. 16amp for the other end of the building too? A 2 amp breaker (440w) for the lights?

That would be a much better system and be a very economical system too! Add a decent cable and use the 4 way mains adaptor for something else.

  3. I couldn't really see very well but was the breaker you replaced a 45amp one? It seemed to say 45 on it? Glad to see the new switch that says 25amp for the master?. The breakers are basically like fuses so you actually want to get the lowest rated breakers you can. These seem to be the cheapest too so you should stock up on a couple more when you are next in the shop. Do you have old wire that you don't trust as much in use? Maybe use a 5 amp breaker and don't overload it! A lighting circuit might be 5amp too. Just the lighting on it's own wiring. The wire used for lighting is often thinner and not rated for as many amps. The breaker needs to match that, so it would only be 5amps.

  4. The "old" fuse box is really nothing but a casing with a Din rail and some terminal blocks. I'm glad to see you haven't replaced it because it isn't the problem and you are better spending money on more MCB's which are the switch things you just bought. You didn't talk about it at all. What were the MCB's you had before and what were the ones you replaced them with?

  5. Old wiring system is not up to modern load. Not surpising actually, you got lucky it failed the way it did. All people in situations like this will need to keep that in mind, if you want to run more on such systems then a few lights and a fridge/freezer, you'll need to redo the whole system and run one thing at the time untill then.

  6. Lets go back to dryer. You said it was taking a long time to dry cloths? How do you have it vented???? Do you clean out the lint trap before each use? You may have to pull the dryer out and check it to see if lint is impacted. Lint build up can also cause FIRE.
Glad you are handy with electricity. I find it interesting that in Denmark you do not have a power main to shut off. That would make things a little bit more scary.
Looked like a sucky day for you. Weather, electricity and bad dogs.
Hope you see the sun tomorrow.

  7. I'm getting really confused. I thought the whole channel was about how not to do it. For example at 0:20 that is how the land used to look. Jasper this is really a how not to do it channel, but it is fun to watch. Keep on posting.
Ps I remember at least 3 or 4 people commenting about this electrical set up including myself and guess what the Portugal Project faithful got angry about them.
