We’ve fallen in Love with Madeira. Living in Portugal just keeps getting better. Today We discover the Natural Lava Pools of Porto Moniz and take our daughter for a swim. The water was freezing cold but that didn’t stop Story from wanting to dive in! She had an amazing time and so did we.
Madeira island, much like mainland Portugal, feels like a wonderful place to raise a child. With so much natural beauty everywhere we turn. We really believe we could make an amazing life for ourselves in this part of the world.
Porto Moniz is on the western point of Madeira Island and is well worth a visit. The drive itself to that corner of the country is a beautiful experience in itself. There are plenty of amazing restaurants and we highly recommend ordering some Milho Frito, which is the fried cornflour dish that we found. Sometimes it’ll be named Fried Polenta on the menu.
Today was our last night on Madeira and we feel a little sad to be leaving. Madeira Island has all the elements that we both love, smashed together into a tiny little space, and that is what makes it feel so unbelievable to travel around.
The next place we have to see is the Azores!
