In the garden we did a lot, but filming it we did not

This week has been very busy, getting all the beds ready for planting, doing the actual planting, and then mulching everything as well. Combined with a family visit and general tiredness, because baby, I didn’t get to filming much. And in between the bees just keep moving in. But here is a peak into our week.

New here? My name is Lea and I live with my partner Maarten, our toddler Puck and baby Bo on our land in Central Portugal. We left the rat race in the Netherlands in 2018 and moved south in our old campervan. Two years ago we bought land in Portugal that had been abandoned for several decades. After lots of hard work we now live in a beautiful yurt and keep ourselves busy growing our own vegetables as well as producing olive oil, wine and honey on a small scale. This channel documents all the different jobs we have to do, and sometimes some nice footage of this beautiful country we now call home.

  1. Pook is growing fast. Well done for getting your crops in so far and it is not necessary to have the camera all the time as it does take a lot of time and we understand Leah. Thank you for showing us how much you and Maarten have done. Have a lovely day.

  2. For the lovely bees: grab some lavender and rosemary branches and root them. They love marigolds too. Marigolds also scare away the snails. Another tip for snails (you will need it) is to spread wood ash around the plants. It fertilizes a bit but when the snails step on it, it is very spicy. On humans too if you dare to taste it haha!

  3. Grab a hoe with a bigger handle so you don't have to curve your back so much, if at all. I saw your husband suffering a bit with that haha. But make sure the handle is strong enough.

  4. Wow amazing work!!! That's a technique I've never seen before, ever!!! That's way easier than what I do! And you're spacing out the tomatoes very broadly too which is great. Only thing I would improve is move them a little closer to the irrigation canal (and to eachother) so that the roots don't all travel towards the water. Maybe put cardboard or burlap in the bottom of the canal so less water is wasted going down instead of the sides. And maybe a handful of manure and/or fertilizer in the bottom of the hole where you planted the tomatoes. Very well done!!! I'm learning so much with these videos!

  5. Hi Leah, I'm from Jamaica and I really love watching your videos but what happen to the cooking ones. I really love those especially when you show us how to cook budget dish or what we grow Dish. There my favorite. I hope I get to see some soon. Tnx

  6. I felt a sympathetic sense of satisfaction when looking at your completed rows. The garden is looking good. Also, totally off topic but the blue looks good on you.
