চাঁপাইনবাবগঞ্জ-সোনামসজিদ স্থলবন্দর পর্যন্ত রেলপথ সম্প্রসারণ নির্মাণ কাজ চূড়ান্ত পর্যায়ে রয়েছে জানিয়ে পররাষ্ট্র প্রতিমন্ত্রী শাহরিয়ার আলম বলেছেন, ভারত-বাংলাদেশ সম্পর্কের মূলভিত্তি ১৯৭১ এর মুক্তিযুদ্ধ।

বুধবার (৮ ডিসেম্বর) সকালে চাঁপাইনবাবগঞ্জের সোনামসজিদ ইমিগ্রেশন দিয়ে ভারতে তিনদিনের সরকারি সফরে যাওয়ার পথে সাংবাদিকদের এক প্রশ্নের জবাবে একথা বলেন তিনি।

তিনি আরও বলেন, ভারত ভ্রমণে সাধারণ যাত্রীদের সড়কপথে যাতায়াতের জন্য ইমিগ্রেশন খোলার বিষয়ে সরকার সক্রিয় অবস্থানে আছে। স্বাস্থ্য মন্ত্রণালয় থেকে পরিপত্র পাওয়ার পর এটি পুরোপুরিভাবে খুলে দেওয়া হবে।

স্থানীয় সংসদ সদস্য ডা. সামিল উদ্দিন আহমেদ শিমুল, উপজেলা নির্বাহী কর্মকর্তা সাকিব আল রাব্বিসহ সরকারি কর্মকর্তা ও আওয়ামী লীগ নেতৃবৃন্দ এ সময় উপস্থিত ছিলেন।
