Our main YouTube series “PORTUGAL FARM LIFE” documents our lives on and around our farm.
We wanted to start a new series for when we leave the farm and explore the cities of Portugal.
This is the very first episode of “PORTUGAL CITY LIFE” and we hope to do many more ❤️
This Lisbon trip was completely unplanned. I used a bunch of cool apps on my phone to book restaurants, hotels, busses, taxis, e-bikes and e-scooters on the fly.
I stayed overnight in an amazing wide-beam narrowboat in a place called Tagus Marina and explored around the historic city of Lisbon for 24 hours. Ate some great food and saw some beautiful sights.
I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I enjoyed exploring the incredible city of Lisbon. We have barely scratched the surface and will be back to film a lot more of it in future!

We are Ken & Gina. 2.5 years ago, we got fed up with paying a mortgage and having to work boring office jobs just to keep our heads above water! We decided to take a big chance, sell everything, and buy a motorhome, which we used to drive our remaining belongings and our pets to Portugal. We bought a beautiful farm in Central Portugal where we live with our 3 dogs, 2 cats and a bunch of other farm animals. Every week we release new episodes of our Portugal Farm Life where you can get an inside look at how we live, on and around the farm, and adapt to the challenges of our new lives.

Have you visited Lisbon before, and do you have any tips for when we film another City Life episode there?
City life is ok for a day or two but farm life is beautiful. Great choice for accomodation Ken.
Thanks for your vid 😇💟💟💟 Love you. I like farm life much more walking with the dogs working on the house or the garden but it's o k if you want to eat some sushi 🍣.
Thoroughly enjoyed this Ken! Can’t wait for the next one!
Loved your impromptu trip to Lisbon Ken .all your videos, are great ..very informative…fabulous to do/see different options…..The food is the best in the world .Thankyou 👍🤩

While you enjoy mini holidays, Gina is home alone! Have fun.
If you look hard you will find an Irish bar around Pink Street.
Great video, vejo sempre os teus vidéos 🇵🇹😘
Don’t forget to go to Al Garage for a lovely steak!
We went on the cable car back in May this year.
My husband saw you in Martim Moniz Friday morning! Of course, being from Lisboa, I can tell you there is a lot more to see, and definitely places to don’t miss. Let us know if you need some tips!
Great video, brought back memories from our July trip. The green interior train fair for us from Castelo Branco was just under €15 each. Bargain compared to UK! How much was the Uber fair?
Great trip mate thoroughly enjoyed it 🙏🏻🍺
Hi Ken, Thank you so much for taking us on a wonderful adventure through Beautiful Lisbon, we really enjoyed it.
Your videos are Fantastic and we so look forward to Sunday's so we can watch them.
Kindest Regards from AUSTRALIA.
Excellent video. Have never had the desire to see Lisbon, but you convinced me to put it top of my 2023 travel list. All the best from Pretoria!
Wow awesome trip luv it thnx a mil
Nice video 🙂👍🏻
Great video as usual, Ken. I enjoyed the fact that this journey was impromptu, just as though I'd been there. As we say in French, I like to "follow my nose" as you do. The house boat accommodation was a brilliant touch.
Merci!
Line (Lynn) from Hopewell, VA.
Thank you Ken😊😊
Well I really enjoyed that Ken…Obrigado 👍 Diolch yn Fawr 👍Lisboa looks fab ! I liked your spirit of adventure who needs planning !!! 😂😉The narrow boat hotel was very cwl! I lived and worked in Oslo, Norway back in the 70's and 80's, had my own little cabin cruiser on Oslo Fjord, emphasis on the little 😂Working as a DJ in the city centre I often travelled to work across the fjord in my boat from my mooring at Ulvøya, to the quayside near Oslo City centre where I tied her up, and walked up to the club. Often on arriving back home to my mooring, rather than go home to my house, I would sleep on the boat. I always slept well on water, and will never forget the feeling of being woken up by the rocking of my boat, as other boats passed mine on their way out for a days fishing…. I had no shower on board… so in place of the early morning shower, it was over the side 😁 guaranteed to wake one up!!! pure heaven ❤! I'm moving over to live in Portugal very very soon….with my Pyrenean's & Welsh Sheepdogs. As I write this I'm in the process of virtual property hunting and hopefully buying (also virtually😳😅) ..😁🤞 . Then its the visa, what the hell did we do to ourselves 🙈I love visiting the city to recharge the batteries…. but I'm a country boy at heart…. So its a small farm for me…. guess we'll see you there!😁👍
Ken: "Lisbon is full os cycle paths"-what I got? "Lisbon is full of psychopaths" 🤦♀
Hi Ken, we where in Lisbon 40 years ago, did`nt speak any portugues, bought some postcards and took a taxi. We showed him the postcards and take a trip through Lisbon, cause the taxi was so cheap . Greetings from Hamburg , We stayed four weeks this year in praia de Mira and drove 2500 km to visit Porto, Aveiro, Braga, Obidos, Luso and other amazing spots, we loved it !
Abraço de Carcavelos 🍻
superb video thanks
i really enjoyed this video. Travelling without an itinerary is good. I am 69 and at 65 I travelled throughout Asia for 9 months backpacking on my own, without any itinerary and it was so liberating. A trip to remember.
Hi. For me the best way to see the old part´s of Lisbon is by tram. You start on the tram 28 but in the other end of the line. Campo de Ourique. It passes to the oldest part of Lisbon and arrives where you want to pick up on this video (Martin Moniz). Then after you may pick the other tram line 15 (oldest one) near to the hotel where you stay earlier (Praça da Figueira) and go to the end of line at Alges. It passes near the river and there are plenty of monuments including the famous Jeronimos monastery and Torre de Belem.Take the daily ticket to travel and beware of pickpocket, yes they are also "famous" in the 28 tram and city center . Cheer´s
keep it unplanned & random – way more fun! 🤩
Very nice this spontenious trip. Idont like the technology and i feel closed to the underground metro.I prefer the open spaces and a proposal…if you find local people to say to us their opinion for their country -just to understand the Portugese mentalite it would be nice. You have one thousand places to go and discover new situations .Bravo Ken.😊
Very lovely! I would love to visit.
This is so much fun! 🙆🏻♀️ i LOVE it. Thoroughly unplanned excursion in Lisboa, a travel method after my own heart: by whim. It's amazing how Lisbon has changed since my first visit decades ago on my first visit to Europe — the old charms remain and now are paired with every contemporary convenience 😎. Your accommodation was well chosen as it must be (barring gale force storm) the most peaceful available in the city. Loved how you enjoyed your easy to use ebike rentals and also how much more connected you felt as you wheeled on. Even i, your viewer, felt that connectedness 😊👍🏼. Maybe you can use a chest-mount for your cam in future when you want to keep your hands free? Everywhere you stopped for meals/refreshment look great. I'll be riding that Telecabine on your recommendation. Glad the sun came out for your 2nd day. Thank you, Ken. Very much look forward to your future city excursions.
Great trip ,I was there with you because been many years I not visit portugal that I enjoyed very much revive my memories things change a lot sense my time .❤
Nice… 🌀💚🌀
Love it
Ken,
Will they allow you to bring a bicycle on the bus and train?
Nice video!
Do you have a Go Pro? That would free up your hands.
Also a note. Your farm videos are amazing. You are the only one to totally respect the Portuguese culture in its essence. I always remember you saying over and over, how the ploughing in-between the olive trees, makes the roots go down, to get the water. Way down. see that's smart because the Portuguese know this from a long long time ago. People, like us, have been removed from our cultures so many times, well I have anyway, we have to learn everything from the start, everywhere. Difficult ,to give us credit.
Ken so glad you enjoyed Lisboa and has you said you merely scratched the surface….My son left the UK five years ago and lives near parque Eduardo V11 and loves it. I to visit as many times as I can. Also enjoyed a meal at Eat Real. So enjoyed your tour…….Excellent
Yes lamb chops are second to steak but third to biltong. Its a toss up
I can't think of the name of it but there is a group of people who basically randomise things with the use of multi-sided dice! Maybe that would make an interesting sojurn?
Being a bit picky here but that narrow-boat was not a narrow-boat ….. it was a barge!
Narrow-boats are designed to go up canals and need to be narrow to get two of them up a lock! I think they are just under 7 foot wide but up to 72 foot long! ;o)
As Desmond Tutu said, you can't take the African out of you. Smile. Said to ex pats.
I loved this vídeo… Very cool going whit the moment… 🤩😎😉 I miss Lisboa vibes and I get it whit this vídeo… 👏🏻🥰😊 The boat hotel whas very nice… 😍 I love the city trip's idea… 👍🏻👌🏻
I am of Portuguese descent and have visited Lisboa many times and some other cities. I inherited some property near Faro that we have to sell or renovate. Your Tour of Lisboa was fabulous.
The city looks so beautiful. You made it come alive on Video. Well Done Mate ! The blend of new and old makes it so attractive to visit and live. Like you Ken, I love my Beer, Beef and Potatoes.
Would you ever consider doing a Livestream from Lisboa ? You don't even have to edit anything. Give our best to Gina and the Dogs. Sending you much love🙏❤🙏 Jim, Harriet and Yuki
Richmond, Va.
I am just like you. I love biltong, steak and beer. My biltong right now is drying slowly in the dehydrator. Smile. Its the ex pat South African in us. I grew up on the beach in SA and the braai used to be on, on the weekends and I used to eat a lovely lamb chop, with the chop in my hands, devouring the chop, for the lunch, on the beach , nestled in the dunes by East London, surrounded by the SA adults enjoying Africa
