Is it enough RAIN to break the DROUGHT? | PORTUGAL FARM LIFE S4-E11 ☁☔❤🇵🇹

Its been an extremely dry winter with little to no rain since December. Portugal is in drought and in some areas its severe. Fortunately the spring rains have started and our farm is soaking it all up! The grasses in the fields are growing tall again and it looks like we will have loads of hay bales for the sheep to eat in the summer months!

Spring has sprung and and the bare branches of the trees and seeing bright green shoots and leaves appearing all over. Its soon to be my favourite time of year on the farm and I can wait for the blue skies and fields of wildflowers again.

We visited an amazing new steak & sushi restaurant in Castelo Branco called AkaSushi and I vlogged a bit of it so you can enjoy the experience with us. Its not an advert for them or anything, but it was incredible food. The owner of the restaurant has a cattle ranch in Alentejo and has the only certified Wagyu Beef cattle in Europe. They serve this premium Wagyu beef in their restaurant and it tastes amazing!!!

We are Ken & Gina, and we left the UK in 2019 in search of a simpler life, away from our office jobs, and the hustle and bustle of the big city. We sold our house, left the UK, and left the Rat race behind us, to move to Portugal and buy a farm. We found an amazing farm in Castelo Branco, Central Portugal where we have lived for the last two and a half years. We make these videos for our friends and family to keep up with what’s going on in our new lives and as a record to look back on one day so see how far we have come. We are always amazed when we see how many people have been watching, following, and subscribing to our vlogs. Thanks for tuning in 😊

  1. I keep saying to people that if I was ten years young I'd move to Portugal. It's getting to the situation where I'm sick and tired of the crime, inconsiderate people, and downright degradation of my lifestyle in the UK. The town where you had dinner looked absolutely beautiful, all I see here is a scruffy town center, load mouthed drunken yobs, and dangerously driven cars. What is the crime rate situation there ?.

  2. It’s like being back in the UK with all the rain 🤪 but knowing that the country really needs it lessens the heartache 😜 you look like you really enjoyed the sushi bar 😋 we haven’t been yet since it was changed from the Indian it was before so look forward to trying it soon 🥰

  3. Your cat killing the rats reminded me of a situation we had here in Philadelphia. On a live cam we were watching a pair of red-tail hawks making their next and then laying three eggs. After the babies were born, it was the male's job to get food while the momma kept the chicks warm. Because of the abundance of rats in the city, it was easy for the male to catch one, and bring the body to the next. After a couple of weeks the male was no longer around. It was determined that by its catching the rats, the male died from rat poison. Apparently, many of the buildings in Philadelphia had put rat poison in their basements to get rid of the rats and by the hawk dissecting it for the babies, the male injected the poison. I'm only telling you this because very often rats have poison in their system. If your cat kills one that has poison, it could damage your cat.

  4. 💕You call it a dam💕Say your in a drought Yet if you look at the trees/bushes surrounding it they are thriving coz they are SUCKING up the water through there Roots💕CAN YOU PLEASE give or get Gina a tripod & camera so we can see some of what she does on a daily basis around the farm💕

  5. Thanks for the update Ken and Gina… keep the info on the progress of your farm coming 👍💯🤗 ken Portugal is a first world country you just forget that you live in the country side…

  6. rain on the flowers and steak on the plate, sounds heavenly to me ! nice video once again Ken, checking the well and the fields helps to look busy LOL nice you found someone to help with the pruning and harvest, leaves you free to do the things that interest you most. Gina is a gem take good care of her ! Much love from OREGON.Annmarie

  7. Another excellent vlog, Ken & Gina. It's always nice to tour your farm with you. I always enjoy your long admiring looks of your wildflowers and critters. Hi, Boike, snuggle bunny cat 👋🏼😊. Glad you got to meet the nice man who'll help you prune and harvest your okive trees. And 🙆🏻‍♀️ for your amazing meal at Aka Sushi. 😊🔥

  8. The purple crosses are probably for up coming Easter. There is always a 40 days thing before easter, that goes back to the Old Testament Exodus of the Jewish people out of Egypt.

  9. Harriet and I love the video. Hope to visit Castela Branco very soon. Those meals are to die for. Knowing and treating your neighbors kindly and generously brings huge dividends. You don't get that with city living. Always a pleasure watching you guys. Never miss a video. Sending you lots of love💖💖 Jim and Harriet. Richmond, Va.
P.S. We will let you know the results of our name poll. Results coming soon for our new addition.

  10. Bom Dia!! Here in CT spring has officially sprung but the weather has not been warm yet, tomorrow we will be in the 20's BRRR! Thanks so much for sharing your Friday night dinner date, the restaurant looked good ,especially Gina's dinner choice.

  11. I don't think the rains we've had are a fraction of what is needed to avoid the risks of drought this year. When we had heavy rains in November, we thought that was the end of the drought, but in fact only raised large reservoirs by a few centimeters, not the meters that was needed. I'm in Spain but very close to the southern Portuguese border. I rely on a 79m deep well myself, but I am concerned about water this coming summer as there are many such wells in my area (some illegal), feeding some large agricultural farms.
