There are many beaches in the greater Lisbon Portugal metropolitan area, and Praia de Carcavelos just might be the best one for a low-key beach day. First, it’s an actual beach, and not a small over-crowded cove. Easy to get to on public transportation, with an easy 10-minute mostly shaded walk once you’re off the train. There are plenty of sunbeds for rent, and lots of space to set up your tent or umbrella. There are also a few places to get a drink or a quick bite. No frills, just a big, nice beach.

Such a beautiful location!
Nice beach! I'm curious, how was the water temperature? Does one really need to go to the Algarve in August in order to have somewhat warmer water?
Carcavelos is the largest beach in Cascais coast. It becomes a surfer's beach in winter. All beaches in the northern side of Lisbon region are great for surfing.
You should eat a "Bola de Berlim" from one of the wandering sellers at the beach. It's a Portuguese tradition. The sales yell of these sellers ("bolee berrlee, com creme e sem creme") is the typical sound of Portuguese beaches.

Thanks Kirsten for introducing me to Praia de Carcavelos. Looks well attended. Were you there during a weekday or the weekend? Just curious. Thanks. 🙏🏻
This was great! I’m always pleased by the variety of people I see in videos. 😃
You should try Costa da Caparica
