  1. Oh man mechanics are a real hit and miss. Thankfully I have a real good one at the moment. My SUV replacement part ( transmission switch) took 10 weeks to receive. My car dealer (Holden) would not sell me just the part but wanted to sell me a huge unit. General Motors had the part I needed so we imported it from America. And then the flooding over and over again. I have yet to travel in my caravan. I understand the frustration that you are feeling, keep getting knock down over and over again. I hope the New Year is the best year for everyone. Hopefully the advert that I keep seeing for Gulfstream G700 private jet is a omen. Its great how you can get a Fridge, washing machine and dryer with a rental. In Australia, we do not get that. I really love the open fire with the Christmas stockings.

  2. karma is a false teaching and do not take what happens to you as personal. Because what happened is not personal. Also no matter where you go. look at it as a different adventure and do something their as well which will make it also a different adventure. Look at it from that prospective that even if it is not where you originally planned to go. it is where you are. And enjoy your time there. Try not to rush. relax, and enjoy your freedom take it easy and whatever happens, happens. take one day at a time and enjoy the day for what it is and the trip even if it is not where you wanted to go. do not be in such a hurry to go from point A to point B or else it will not be fun. Because you are njot savioring the moments. Every day, no matter what happens is part of Van Life.

And Absolute control of what happens in life or in life is an illusion. No one has absolute control of their life and what happens. plan and hope for the best and if the best does not take place then still try and enjoy the experience

  3. I am sad to hear you’ve had so many big issues lately! The passport and van issues plus the car debacle a few months back! I am sure you must be feeling tired and worn out. It might be nice to have a bit of time near your sister! Also if you do a Dallas meet up I would definitely come! Bonus for me!

We had good luck with consignment furniture if you need ideas for rounding out your thrifting journey later.

I will be here watching no matter what you decide. You have an incredibly engaging personality and I enjoy watching you. Good luck with your decisions moving forward!

  4. You may also consider doing furniture rental rather than thrifting, so that you can just call the company to pick up their stuff, if you should decide to hit the road again. Sometimes that's easier than getting rid of all the stuff you thrifted. Good luck withbyour decision Amber. Family can be a very positive reason to put down roots. You just want to be sure this break aligns with the rest of your goals.

  5. No matter what you decide to do you're still, "Story Chasing". Your life is your story. ☺️ Write the chapters you want to read back to yourself in 1, 10 or 20 years.

Taking some time off van life feels like a much needed extended retreat to rest and reset. May God bless you as you write your next story.

  6. I agree with most of these comments. Do what feels right. You seem more at peace now that this decision is almost made. Stopping for a while, near your sister, will give you a break and give you time to make some decisions. Thrifting sounds like fun for your furniture, etc. I have a friend who lost her home and everything she had a few years ago in one of the terrible fires we had in Northern California. They re-built their home and she thrifted most of her furniture. It’s lovely now. It seems like she’s been there for years because nothing is match-matchy. Very homey. I love that big yard in that apartment you’re looking at. Just the right size for a dog!

  7. Amber , everyone needs a reboot . Life gets heavy sometimes. I am 67, You think when you become of age (senior club) everything should fall in place . It just a different set of problems. Right now you have had a rough patch . If you take the apartment and you are closer to family ,you can still do van trips when you want to . Just settle down and allow yourself to readjust. I traveled 10 months across the country in a semi .Traveling has its on irritations . I think it would be fun to see you going thrifting . Searching for land . Learning new skills . It's a new kind of adventure .

  8. Keep in mind the three couples you mentioned had major projects that consumed their van life channel when they were not traveling i.e. Eamon & Bec renovated their entire house that enticed a viewer to keep watching, same with Trent & Alley

  9. That apartment is super cute! I feel like we all are walking through seasons of transition right now. As my pastor's wife told me earlier this year, "Do what you have to do to ensure that you'll be around and walking in your purpose in five years." Do what you gotta do, ma'am. We're all along for the journey.

  10. Just to assure you that I watch your channel for you, not for the vehicle or the lifestyle , those are perks that come along with your energy, your focus, your dreams and how you communicate your self to the world. I think that when you lose someone who has been a constant companion whether human or a furry friend.. that can devastate and disorient to the point where confusion, pain and change are inevitable. We live in a world where we need connection more than ever before. You take all the time in the world to discover you… and don't worry about the rest of the world. I just want you to be healthy , happy wherever you are. ( PS. I do secretly hope that you rescue another dog, there are so many wondeful dogs that need loving homes and you are so good with animals.. I believe you have a gift with them ) Cheers to the good life!

  11. Yes, stop and relax. That's what I felt like so I decided to buy a piece of property in a small community in Quartzsite, AZ. I'm here in the winter and travel in the sumer.
Why not house sit-dog sit, etc.
Remember if you rent you need furniture.
Hang in there, the rainbow comes after the rain.

  12. Sending best wishes ❤️
I'll be interested in popping by to see how you get on. I do particularly like following vanlife and seeing new horizons, from across the pond, but you won't loose completely 😉

  13. Your channel is one of my favorites. I can’t afford patreon but I absolutely love your content. I can’t leave my house much: so I love hearing about interesting places. And there are all sorts of places to go. You didn’t get a parking spot at magnolia market and I’d love to see it
PS. No used mattresses re: bedbugs. And my DIL got this great sofa on marketplace – it turned out to be infested with fleas. They were about to bring home first baby so it hit the curb quickly

  14. Hi Amber. Yes, over-filling an engine with oil is very bad. Make sure it doesn't start leaking, because excessive oil can blow seals. Above all, anytime you get an oil change, take it a very short distance from the place, park on level ground, turn the van off and go shopping or something to let the oil drain down and then CHECK IT YOURSELF. It takes about 90 seconds to do. It's your vehicle, and oil change guys are paid to basically be careless. I've had an over-filled engine before and made them drain it until it is correct. Please check it yourself. As for the apartment/channel issue, I understand you wanting to be near family, but you could change the channel from van life to living abroad- that would be something! BGTY!

  15. Sounds like a good plan. I left full-time van life after 3.5 years to figure things out too. I am down in Southern Mexico. I flew down here with my little dog. I am right on the Pacific ocean. There are 9 bays and 36 beaches and we are surrounded by a national rainforest. I got a fully furnished apartment. I am saving money for a while as I figure out my next step. I have been here 2 years and I only spend $644 a month for EVERYTHING. I will be excited to watch what you do.

  16. I click the like button because I like watching the places you go and the things you see….saying that, you are stepping into the next phase of your life and I can not wait to see where you will be going and what you will be doing! I’m in!

  17. God is in control. Always perfect timing. Maybe you weren't supposed to go to Europe. Try not to stress. We all go through stuff like that. It's going to get better. I've been breathing deep, consciously lately and thanking God for not having the flu like people I know. Look to all the blessings
