You did a great job of emptying the smelly stuff out, I'm sure there are plenty of rats behind the windows & things still in the room. Just shows how empty it needs to be until you're ready to work on it as it's a cosy home for them otherwise. They'll move out once there's nowhere to hide.
I was watching thinking I could smell it as you dragged everything out when I realised it was my cat's litter tray in the bathroom, she'd left me a gift. 💩🐈😆

Great job tackling that cleanup. But definitely wear a mask next time! You can catch all sort of nasty diseases from inhaling rat-infested dust, including things like Hantavirus. If you wouldn't want to attend a crowded indoor gathering without a mask during Covid, you definitely wouldn't want to clean up a rats nest without a mask either!

Is hantavirus common in Portugal? I'd be wanting a respirator or at least an N95 mask in that environment. YMMV.

U should have been wearing gloves and masks as the female rats pee a lot and u can catch veals decease which is very fatal but enjoyed watching u clean up from Graham &diana Norfolk England

Perhaps some elevated/trampoline dog beds outside the main entrance to cool the dogs might stop the digging?

Question – why not mulch rather than burn? There’s a lot of air pollution in central Portugal from so many burning right now, it’s hard to breathe in some areas. Seems like a greener choice would be to mulch.

Hi Ken and Gina rats everywhere talk about a problem,rats only jump at you if they are cornered.you can buy online sonic boxes that make a low frequency to keep them away I’m not sure if it will affect the dogs.😊
