JULY Farm Tour | My Central Portugal Farm #34

Join me for a calm and relaxing walk through my farm in July ´22 to show how things have grown and whats happening with the fruit trees, veggie garden and vineyard.

Enjoying the journey? Consider buying me a cup of coffee or a roof tile to help save up for the new roof 🙂

About Girl Meets Farm:
I’m Christine. I started this journey in search of my forever farm in Portugal, and now I have found it!

This is my adventure as a solo expat on a farm in Central Portugal with my two fur-kids, Shakti & Shiva.
I’ve never owned or lived on a farm, but moved to Portugal in the hope of fulfilling a life-long dream of finding open space, subsistence farming and a safer, better life.

Now that we have found our farm, the second stage of our journey begins!
I have to figure out farm life while renovating an agricultural structure to make it habitable and turn it into a comfortable home for me and my furkids.

Thank you for joining our journey!

  1. Quince is very fragrant but not really an eater. People make quince jelly or "cheese" from them. It is totally worth googling what to make with quince. Well done you are doing really well and learning as you to is a great way to remember. Also a top for plant feed for tomato plants. When you finish your milk, put some water in the container then pour on the base of plants. I don't know if you have nettles but if you do pick tips of fresh nettles, put in a bucket of water and in a couple of weeks, when it starts stinking, you can take a cup of the juice mix with water like any tomato food. Keep topping up x

  2. Nice to see someone with a desire that involves hard work. It's going to be tough, but very worth it in the end.
With the fruit trees. What care have they had previous to you buying the farm? We found ours improved hugely after pruning and natural fertilizer.. (we're not far from you I think)
The strimming is legal but you can't use a chain or metal blade. Only a plastic line, and in some cases, you'll need an extinguisher on hand.
Have fun, but most of all enjoy.

  3. This is a very difficult year for all farmers. I am afraid the world's food supply is at risk both from lack of good harvests from this year as well as damage to the trees, themselves.
Your have so much courage and so many challenges. It would be wonderful if you can join up with and older experienced, local farmer. Both to help you learn and help with the work load!

  4. The grape man is frankie on the road, or farm. How u watering them?
I saw a sales video for that property and he seem to open a tap on a tank at the top of the property!!??

  5. Here on the iberian peninsula there are figs that give fruits every other year but ask your farmer or neighbours. Orange is a winter fruit. You need to harvest the tree usually doesnt let them fall. If you would have left the leaves on the onions you could have let them dry hanging. You have a very steep learning curve try to ask as much as you can from locals. Take care! 🙏🏼❤
