It has been a BUSY two years since we starting building our homestead on the land. From living in a tiny house to building our geodesic dome and all the work that has been going on behind the scenes to build a cabin to call our forever home, it’s been quite the adventure. Taking time to reconnect as a couple as we get ready for all the projects that are going to begin in the spring was a great decision. While we won’t be posting a video next Sunday, you can catch us for a live sit down at 4:00pm EST, right here on our channel and every Sunday as we continue to create van life & off grid homestead vlogs, sharing our adventures as we build our own alternative lifestyle, living simply in the wild wonderful off grid forest…taking glamping to a new level! #geodesicdome #tinyhouse #vanlife

The vlog continues on Instagram:

How did we get here?
After a year of full time travel living the van life, we had to adapt when the world changed. To keep busy we’ve converted our tiny house on wheels into a fully functioning off grid tiny house that has everything we need. Realizing that none of us know how long this new normal will stick around, we made the decision that building a home here was the best decision we could make. We’ve spent the last year doing EVERYTHING involved with coordinating and planning the build ourselves as well as setting up this off grid property to be able to provide us with the the food we’ll need in the future. Hit with constant delays and building price increases, realizing our dream of building our own home has taken longer than anticipated. With travel starting to reopen again, we’ve learned so much about the importance of having a home base. and are excited to continue our build this dream here while also doing what we love most, exploring and seeing the world!

  1. Making the decision to leave was a surprisingly difficult one…we’ve been very much of the “push through” mindset for the last two years and in some ways, that has been beneficial because there’s no way the land would be where it is today had we taken time off, especially given we’ve done the work ourselves. However, feeling the burnout creeping in and the lull of winter still here, recharging our batteries so we can continue to realize this dream of ours is what we needed to do for us. When we’ve taken Sunday’s off it’s been met with criticism and expectations that we should still post “something” or the “it doesn’t need to be a great video” but we take such pride in the stories we share each week that it truly matters to us. The reality is, you can’t pour from an empty cup so I hope you’ll stick around while we take the time to brew a new pot of coffee. On a side note, I’m currently watching Todd playing in the waves with the biggest grin on his face so I’m going to go in and join him…hope to see you next Sunday for just a casual chat as friends, have a lovely week xo

  3. Canadians living in Ecuador and we too have been going for over 2 years almost non-stop.
My husband has not taken a true break accept for a couple weekends throughout the Canadian summer before moving here.
For my birthday which is tomorrow, I went to Mompiche and Isla Portete for two nights and boy did I need it.
He is now looking forward to the same trip with me at the end of March, early April to do the same but this time for 3 to 4 nights.
