Romantic PORTO looks like a pop-up town – a colourful tumbledown dream with medieval relics, bell towers, extravagant baroque churches and stately beaux-arts buildings piled on top of one another, illuminated by streaming shafts of sun. If you squint you might be able to make out the open windows, the narrow lanes and the staircases zigzagging to nowhere. It’s a lively walkable city with chatter in the air and a tangible sense of history, the old-world riverfront district is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Just had some questions that we would love if you guys could talk about in your videos:
With so many gas shortages in Europe, are you experiencing any problems with availability. Also, many EU countries use different types of gas bottles and connectors so there can be compatibility issues – how will you address this on your travels into the different countries
Access to fresh water / toilet emptying as you appear to be mostly on free park ups
You fitted the remote water emptying switch but can you explain what was the motivation for this? P.S. on this topic, I think viewers would have found it interesting to watch how you fitted this as well as any other future van modifications
Some more detail about the food you eat. For example, you ate some sort or sandwich in Porto at the end of todays episode – what was it, where did you buy it from, how much did it cost and if you could describe what things taste like as opposed to just “mmmm”. Also, what you typically get from the supermarket, and what things cost. You’ve done a couple of supermarket videos in South Africa and Mauritius which were interesting, so doing this for each country you visit would be useful.
Would be interesting to hear a run through on your power in your van, for example the solar panels you have and how they work with your leisure battery and power bank, did you fit this yourselves, what size panels are they and are they working well etc
How have you picked out your route around Europe? Your map shows you passing through Belarus – will you still be doing this with the war in neighbouring Ukraine?
How are you finding long term use of the bike? How steep is the hill before it runs out of puff? Is sitting directly over the rear wheel comfortable on any but the smoothest of paths?
Finally, please don’t think we are criticising in anyway as there is a lot of positivity on your videos. We can see the extra effort you have put into the recent videos by including voice overs with useful information, music in the background, better sound quality, etc. We’re just giving some personal feedback because we think your channel would fare better and the number of subscribers would grow and the number of views would increase. You could add more details to your ‘budget travel’ as you call it.
For example you mentioned that your food budget can be €16 a day so it would be great to see how you do this and what does that look like and just to put a bit more meat on the bone to your vlogs so to speak. I think videos about your day to day living would be interesting and would appeal to a wider fan base – even if you may think that it lacks excitement. But more people would be interested in seeing what travelling on a budget looks like – warts and all – to show what is achievable. Otherwise your channel as a destination guide may only have a limited appeal. In a crowded market of travel YouTubers, I think you could benefit more from showing your own story, delve deeper into how you keep costs low and how that means living in reality as there is nothing to be embarrassed about.
Other travellers who create aspirational destination guides are ten a penny. You may have seen there are some videos out there where they show you what $10 can get you in a certain city for example. We think you could get more out of your channel by having that sort of detail but obviously applicable to your situation. If you do want to keep it more destination based and less about you then I just think more detail overall, delivered in a more conversational way would be better. For example, more detail on the van, the park ups, campsites and showing facilities (good or bad). You could do campsite tours, show the facilities, show on the map where they are, show what the access is like for larger motor homes etc. Basically the more detail, the more useful and entertaining it will be for others who want to follow in your footsteps. Like the bridge walk today, how much is it, which is the best way to book, online or in person.
Please don’t feel the need to write a response to these questions if they’re going to be answered in upcoming videos and please only accept this as constructive feedback and not as complaints. We are long time viewers and we listen to your podcasts too so we feel you guys have got a lot of potential. Thank you.
I am thinking whether to choose Spain or Portugal to travel for a few months, I am somewhat doubtful
Beautiful PORTO
Wow, beautiful, beautiful Porto, port and sunset.
You guys really had an amazing day in Porto. Perhaps the port was responsible for some of the magic 😜
