LISBON TO PORTO on Portugal's Premier Train Service! – CP Alfa Pendular First Class Review

Hello, and welcome back to another train trip review!

Today I’m trying out Comboios de Portugal (CP) on their premier train service! I’ll be taking the Alfa Pendular from Lisbon to Porto, in the Conforto Class (First Class).

The train is a great way of how to get from Lisbon to Porto, and Porto to Lisbon. The Alfa Pendular service operates with six car Pendolino high-speed trains between Portugal’s biggest cities.

Enjoy the video!

  1. Before COVID there was catering service on the seat and I think that it has resumed. At least last time I travelled in Alfa pendular there was a lady with a car just like an airplane. I also think that the bar has headphones to offer and yes usually you can pay by card.

And btw Vouga line is now being fully renovated 🙂

  2. I’ve heard a lot about Porto and even talking with Portuguese people they said to me forget about the algarve and Lisbon and visit Porto so for roughly 4 years it’s managed to get onto my bucket list, lovely post

  3. It's many years since I travelled this route on one of these trains, but you have certainly brought out the positives of the refurbishment and brought back good memories. I think the 'funky' blue light in the toilets is possibly an anti-drug taking measure, but let's not spoil the atmosphere. 😄 Another excellent production and as good as many a professional travel doc made for promotional purposes.

  4. 08:15 You travel without headphones? 😳 Surely you listen to music when travelling (I’m guessing perhaps you have AirPods or similar). 🎶 😊
Good video. I haven’t been on these trains since 2008 but really enjoyed the trip. Porto is a lovely city! Hope you got to spend some time there and to travel up the beautiful Douro Valley. 😍 They also make delicious port. 😋

  5. This is one of the best trains I've ever seen. Three hour journey for on $41? What a bargain, not to mention how luxurious.
You are absolutely right about the passenger cars in the beginning looking very American. Nearly all postwar passenger cars were built with fluted stainless steel. Easier and cheaper to maintain.

  6. When he said 3 hours( and between principal cities) I said "What?"
That's an average of 100kph, on a supposedly high -speed train. I wonder if its faster by car, though with tolls, not cheaper. Obviously the track is NOT high speed. Still, why hurry in Portugal…

  7. I wonder if the blue lights in the toilets are to stop drug users shooting up, means they cant see a vein…some shops in the uk have the same lights fir that reason.

  8. The older carriages at the beginning look French to me, rather than American! When I lived in France in the early 1970s, corrugated side carriages were normal on their commuter trains. Incidentally, I believe the blue light in the loos is probably to discourage people from using drugs in there – that's what it does in some areas, anyway. Good video, although I'd have liked to have seen more of the standard class. Thank you.

  9. Although not having ridden on it I think the Portuguese version of this train is alot smarter than the Trenitalia Frecciargento version which I have ridden on albeit a few years ago. Superb video as always . 👌

  10. Ci sta ci sta. Ma quando hai detto "Reggio emilia" si pronuncia "redjo emilia" invece di "regho emilia". Una cosa abbastanza piccola però comunque lo appunto.

  11. Cash only is a gimmick, forcing foreign travelers to purchase local currency some portion of which will never be spent. One wants to be paperless, cashless, cardless, and contactless. While not all card brands exchange at par, their rates are generally more equitable than one gets at local banks and exchanges.
