Hi everyone! In this next episode of the #PT17 series, let’s go to the beach! The most popular beach near Lisbon is called Praia de Carcavelos, easily reached by a direct train from central Lisbon towards Cascais, getting off at Carcavelos station and then a 10 minute walk, (just follow the other people!) It’s got everything you would expect of a good beach – overpriced sunloungers for rent, (guilty!) parasols, plenty of cafes and bars serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, soft golden sand and surprisingly cold water.

If you get bored and fancy a change of scenery though, get back on the same train and ride to the end of the line – Cascais. This very pretty little town looks like a sleepy fishing village that developed into a tourist hive with several hotels, international big-brand restaurants, souvenir and boutique shops and pretty little streets with a Portuguese flair for those al fresco evenings. Highly recommended if you like to be well-catered for in a peaceful and beautiful area while on holiday, but want the buzz of Lisbon within a half hour train ride!
