It’s crazy how quickly these 6 months have gone by since moving to Portugal. Day by day it feels more and more like home, I’ve always enjoyed Portugal, but since moving to Braga I can say that I really have developed a new appreciation for what this country has to offer. Living in Portugal comes with some hurdles to conquer, however once you have landed and gotten the ball rolling, life in Portugal really takes shape and shows you what it has to offer. Out of all of the countries that I could recommend to someone to live abroad, Portugal would be one of the top choices on that list.

Hi Rafi, just curious, other than beloved gelato, what do you miss most about living in Italy?
I still feel like I'm getting away with something when I go into a store or even inside in a restaurant without a mask.
Congrats on your 6th month anniversary. 🎉 It’s flown for me so I’m sure it’s flown for you. 😀 Gesticulation. Yes, the heart and soul of the Italian language but not only hand gestures but the facial expressions (without hand gestures) are equally as important. Harder to demonstrate but essential. 👍🏻 Sorry to learn PT doesn’t have that—it adds another dimension and color to a language. 🇮🇹
Portugal sounds like it's suitting you very well. Have you come across anything that you miss about Italy yet?
With portugal being so relaxed, friendly, easy going, how does that affect the crime rate there ? How safe is Portugal? Do criminals and drug dealers cruise in from other countries and attack people? After what happened to Madeleine McCann, I'm wondering about the efficiency of law enforcement and safety for tourists.
I found the Portuguese to be incredibly kind and helpful. I still wear mask. Don’t want covid again! My Italian teacher teachers me the gestures too. I mess them up! I’m NY Italian. We use hand gestures but different than Italy of course.
