Now that we are sure we have our residency in Portugal the dream
of building a semi self-reliant life may be starting to become a reality.
We expect that ‘Mungo the Minibus’ will be our full time home for the next
year as we travel the UK and Europe, and whilst we work on our tiny house and land in Central Portugal.
Thank you so much for following our journey, love from Elaine and Darren.

Originally from H-L-S doing up place in Coimbra area. You are def doing the right thing. Doing work in July to mid September is harsh. We don't expect to make much progress at all.
Lovely to hear your update and look forward to seeing your progress.
No doubt you already know about the videos put out by The Indie Project, who are now living off grid in Portugal after renovating an old barn to live in. If you look at their earlier videos you might be able to glean some relevant information e.g. water collection, solar panels, self-sufficiency in Portugal etc. they travelled around in converted vans before settling there too, so you must have a lot in common.
You both seem happier. No doubt you are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. I am happy for you! September will be here before you know it. You’re smart waiting until it cools off to move. I’m always inspired by your videos…you both are so industrious, organized, and genuine. Thank you for sharing! Take care.
September is a lovely month and very sensible to get going out there. It will be great to follow your progress. 🇵🇹🇵🇹🌞
Best wishes from sunny Teesside here. I'm extremely envious of your forthcoming adventure. You two are practically buzzing with anticipation and why not? Just go for your dream and explore what it brings. Regarding the strimmer, I have a Dewalt 18v cordless and it' been excellent. Two batteries, each lasting approx 20-25 mins.
I imagine the foliage on your land has grown quite a bit in 2 years and I saw from other vlogs that it needs to be cut down every Summer in case of fires, so look into that.
Congratulations! So happy for you both! Looking forward to watching your new journey!
I can’t wait to see your journey home ! Congrats…..
Great Stuff. I wish you both well. Frustrating as the delay has been, you are not alone. I too am hoping to move out to Portugal, and you will probably be ahead of me, as I have new family health related delays to get through. So I will enjoy seeing you two make this dream real. Well deserved. All the best.
Thank you for the update!
The highest covid country in Europe and they running out of people to vaccinate. Have fun!
September may seem like a ways off, but I’m sure the days will fill up in getting all the details finished. Will you be able to spend time with your kids before moving? 💜
What about ur daughter, does she live nr u? will she visit, or is, she coming with u in her little van?
Great to see you are getting organised for your move to Portugal 🇵🇹
I would caution that if you "import" tools etc from the UK 🇬🇧 in to Portugal you may be charged tax (VAT?) on entry in to Portugal on any goods you import. You may get away with smuggling stuff in, but it might be wise to be prepared for the eventuality of being taxed on goods you import into Portugal 🇵🇹
What about a solar /jackory type setup for ur equipment as ull have plenty of 🌞🌞🌞🌞.. Good luck!
dont take tools because when you need parts you cant buy locally
Nice to see you again……..thought you'd disappeared. September will soon be here! Lots for you to do in the meantime with planning, sorting through and packing up all your belongings etc. At least Portugal is not too far away for popping back and visiting your daughter or your daughter visiting you. Fingers crossed that you find a decent tenant for your house 🤞
You both look younger than you did two years ago. Your new journey will be amazing. I dont need to say 'Good Luck'. You dont need it. PIPS were planted long ago. The sprouting happened over the last 24 months. Welcome to the growing phase.
Oh my goodness! How exciting….congratulations so happy for you both and Max of course! Look forward to seeing how it all goes, lots to do now, but you guys work so hard, I know you will make a success of it……I am excited for you 👍🇵🇹definitely be along for the ride, just love your vlogs have a happy Sunday 💐😎🇵🇹👍😘
lovely to see you guys again I will be waiting for your next vid all the best
If you are taking a lot of "new" equipment into the EEC you could fall foul of French (EEC) customs if they decide you are importing it – you best check that out and make a list of everything with all recepts with you
We welcome you to Portugal and wish you oy the best. Cheers🎉
Congratulation! The next adventure begins. Best of luck to you both.
Excellent news!
Good vlog! I Am excited to follow your journey!
What wonderful news!! So excited to hear this. I am looking forward to going along for the ride. I know you two are so excited that it is finely happening. September it is!! Blessings to you both of you in this “new journey “ persay. 🥰 🧜♀️🌴🌻
So glad you are finally going to go and live in Portugal for good. You are both such hard workers and you need a nice life off grid. Love your vlogs and keep up the good work.
Brilliant that you've got a date to go, (better hurry up before they start locking us up again).
You had 2 years and you didn't sit on your bahookies (as they say in scotland). You now have a beautiful home that will see you through your renovation. Sometimes things turnout for the best. Looking forward as always to your next videos.
Kisses to Max
Love your videos so much. My cousin was visiting Portugal and I told her about your videos.
Nice to get updated on your move.
