Sorry… Portugal DREAMZzz
Not sure if they close to you,but was watching Portuguese dreamzzzz. They just moved in, have a load of straw they want rid of, they asked on their video was anyone interested! As stuck in one of their sheds. 😊
Hi Kirsty, your Chili fermenting looks interesting. I’ve never tried adding pineapple or ginger. After a few weeks will you grind it up to make a sauce or paste? Or will you be showing the results in a future video? I’m subscribed so if so will look for it. I’ve got a bunch of chiles that I need to process and always looking for new ideas! 😊 Thank you.
You’re right about chopping for mulch, they will take ages to break down, but you’re building soil. Much better than burning and polluting. I try to keep 100% organic matter on site. Your land will become spongier and absorb more water during the wet season and insulate against the climate extremes. We all need to do this in our gardens 👏👏👏
Wow that snıpper is pretty powerful cutting through those decent sized branches
Just leaving you and Mikey a "Hi from Canada" :-)!
You just ate a Clementine 🙂
I do n t think basil over winters easily but i have by accident because i'd cut back and planted around it and forgot to go back. It was well protectedby winter veg.
Don’t discount burning off. There are nutrients in the ash that you can spread around all of your fruiting plants. The ash makes the plants flower prolifically. Also oranges and other citrus are not ripe until they are pulled off the tree easily, otherwise they will be sour. Oranges will not ripen in a fruit bowl if picked too early.
centesimo decimo 🙂
Your chilly plants look like some alien spiders have woven a mega dense web over them😬. Mikey is so cute when you have a loved fur child in your life🐈. You have a wonderful, loving life. You need a wood chipper. And have you seen a movie called Tremors the bit with the little girl on the pogo stick? Your clipper sounds just like that😃🙏🐈🌻🤗
The "funky green" stuff on top of the well water is a good sign. It means that your water is good, really good. 😊 great for irrigating your garden and trees. Can also be used for drinking and bathing and just about anything. Have it tested and see. Also regarding the basil, I bring a couple of my plants indoors for the colder months but you can let them go to flower if they are in the ground and they will self seed. No need to cover them unless you want basil during the winter months and building a small hoop house over them can do the trick. Also, those little round dark purple (almost black) peppers are the hottest peppers I've ever had. Excellent job with the olive trees although here we do it in the spring. No need to prune before winter as the trees are dormant anyways and they benefit more from the mulch in the spring through summer when they need it most.
I have been wondering if you have ever finished a job that you have started? The orange you ate looks like a satsuma .
Hah…what a confusing intro…too much on the plate?
I love seeing your interaction with your cat. It's surprising how our pets have nice clean drinking water yet prefer to drink dirty water. My dog always licks the water from the ground while I'm hosing, yet he had 3 bowls of clean drinking water. Go figure! You would definitely have to be my favourite YouTuber, I look forward to every video and love it when we have a bonus and get 2 in the 1 week. Greetings from Sydney Australia 🇦🇺 😀
now you could make homemade orange marmalade fresh , squeezed orange juice, orange cream cake
Hi Kirsty, are you keeping Mikey? I seem to remember you were only looking after him for a while but I could be wrong.
I see tiny orange marmalade in the future. 🫠
That’s a negative on the noise satisfaction level 😂 but a big yay on the clearing and mulching satisfaction
So glad you didn’t burn the olive branches. I recently bought a chipper and no fallen branch is safe from me now! I have been mulching garden paths, it makes a huge difference and its oddly therapeutic like your clippers, but slightly noisier…
Mickey is such cute supurrvisor, are you keeping him now? You could dry your citrus peel makes a handy fire starter, smells good too. Thanks for an entertaining vid and food for thought.
Maybe a little OCD, but I so enjoy monotonous chores that have a satisfying result. Not all the time and definitely on my terms, but they make me happy. I probably would have cut the olive branches even smaller. So enjoyed your snipping and fermenting.
Hi from Norway. Have you ever thought about having a working guest for som time in the spring or summer?
I suppose many would be interested, me included.
remind me again the name of those shears….I need them!
Wow! You had quite the selection of chilies. Fermented hot sauce sounds interesting. It's great to preserve your produce. It would have probiotic properties I do believe. I am getting myself a pressure canner for Xmas. You can also water bath with it as well. I'm going to order it from Amazon
It is a presto. I'm getting the smaller one because I don't need to do large volumes. Besides a bigger one will be difficult to lift off the stove. Are the spooky chilies the ghost of Xmas past or future?
I have two basil plants in pots on my balcony and I leave them outside during the winter. We had -7 / -12 C and they had no problem. In my garden they didn't like the cold and they disappeared although they've been in pots close to the tiny house and the stones should radiate some heat like the stones from the balcony. Maybe they need someone to talk to 😉 I'm not in the garden when it's so cold.
You need to plant a small patch of catnip next year, for Mikey. Mikey will love it. I'm loving your videos.
I wouldn't want to be walking through your chilli garden during a full moon night🤣😂😅
I had wondered if u had a streamer – best investment I ever made ! You get to the stage u wonder how u ever survived without one … Love your channel !
Do you really eat that many chili’s. Isn’t basic food plants more important?
Depending on what basil you have you can overwinter it but most die but it’s worth a try or you can take cuttings
You do make men laugh witch your chilli ghosts 🤣😂🤣😂
Thank you for sharing 😁
Wonderful heron or egret flying over your homestead at the end!
It’s so nice to see things still green and you have actual fruit on your citrus trees! Does winter temps affect the citrus trees or the quality of the fruit? I’m guessing not. They are adapted to that climate. In Calgary it’s been a whopping -19 for almost all last week. I love the cold way more than the heat so that’s not the issue but I really love gardening so that’s stopped for now. But last year I bought 2 sets of led grow lights and I can grow peppers, tomatoes and whatever herbs like basil, or again, parsley… but it’s time to plan for next year.
We're planning to move there next year, and I've been trying to watch and think about how we might do things. From your experiences in Portugal, if you grew peppers in a polytunnel or something like that, would you be able to skip the labor of covering each plant? Or would that not offer enough protection? Thank you for sharing what you're doing, btw!! It's so helpful!
Great idea to use the olive branches as mulch! Have a fun week, Laura 🌸
So much I would like to comment on, but I've forgotten most of it. Really enjoyable to see all these things you do. Sometimes I wish I lived down the road so I could come by and help. Have you ever considered drying peppers?
Your well probably has a layer of pond weed on it and the water underneath will be clean x
Ist deine Küche fertig denn es Weihnachtet sehr ich wünsche dir einen schönen 2. Advent
When are you getting some animals on the Homestead? Some Chickens or sheep?
The plants covering the well water are lemnas (or duck weed) and the bird was an eggret (in Portuguese garça).
Loads of jobs done, with help from Mikey😊
