MEASURING THE EXACT GABLE HEIGHT | Portuguese DIY House Renovation

We are in the middle of renovating our house in an abandoned Portuguese village. After days of rain today finally it seems like we are in luck. So let’s continue with that roof. I am starting with rising the gable with the first layer of tijolos. But we start with cleaning up the existing wall.

Stay tuned for more building content and why not hit the notification bell so you don’t miss it 😉 thanks for watching!

My name is Jasper and i bought a house in a Portuguese ghost town. Together with my dogs Zoey & Akira we show you the rebuild of our house and what it is like living the daily life in Central Portugal.

  1. Go straight down from the gable 1,5 meter. Then make a horizontal line to the other wall and go up 1,5 meter in a straight line.
Both points then will be on the exact same height. In stead of the line a laser would do. Maybe Alex could lent you his for a day. Alex Lukachina.

  2. the way i would do it i would nail a vertical wood board on the new wall then buy a 5 euro laser light put it on the beam level it, point it straight. go to the board on the opposite wall move it until it hit it. 15 mints job your way would work if the floor and the 4 walls are level i doubt that or buy a laser level😁

  3. Use a plumb bob for vertical lines, clear pvc hose filled with water will get a level, easy peasy and very cheap. I used to level houses many years ago, never had a problem with water level.😊😊😊

  4. How do you think buildings were built vertically and level in the past? I know plumb lines and water glasses were very common in those days, and you had to be a guild master to approve their use.

I think that working with ropes will not give you the desired precision that you envision, although it will be sausage to the real Portuguese or something is level.

  5. i buy very reasonably priced Portuguese olive oil here in Brasil. I would have thought that time/effort/yield would make buying oil ,and using your olives cured/etc whole for eating with salads and picadas a better use of your time and effort.
