I do not think that if I were to move to the USA as a Portuguese citizen, "things" would go really fast!
It is the American entitlement mindset that makes you want things as you would get if you were still living in the US!
It is true bureaucracy in Portugal is slow but so it should be! I live in the UK for the last 20 years and I had to wait quite some time before I joined the system!
In fact, I worked for years in London, paid my taxes but when I lost my job in the 2008 crisis, I was refused unemployment support because I was a foreigner. Not a foreigner when my taxes were collected though!
Every country has its fails and you should expect things to take their time, in Portugal or anywhere else!

Thanks for posting this info…!!! You mentioned that you also have VA / TrICare for medical care… so, I’m just curious if you had to enroll in the VA’s “Foreign Medical Program” (FMP) in order to be reimbursed for medical expenses in Portugal?
