Meltdown in the Himalayas – The politics of climate change | DW Documentary

The World Health Organisation puts the number of deaths from climate change at 250,000 by 2050.
A combination of bad policies and political apathy is speeding up climate change. Have we reached the tipping point? Can it be reversed? Pakistan takes a bold bid to mitigate worsening climate change.

The word Himalaya means House of Snow, and is the second largest icecap outside the polar regions. But it is melting at the fastest rate in human history. One-third of the Himalayan glaciers are projected to disappear by the end of this century due to climate change, threatening the supply of water to nearly 2 billion people across South Asia. We discover how water became a major flash point between arch-rivals India and Pakistan, due to the Siachen glacier conflict, and go undercover to observe the proliferation of water thieves in Karachi. We also examine the impact of former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s billion tree tsunami, Pakistan’s bold bid to mitigate worsening climate change.
Along the way, we meet people and activists trying to find ways to tackle the biggest issue of the 21st century.

  1. This documentary has many false narrative, if you see posters holding people and read what's written over the cards you will see certain mismatch of events of which they actually are. DW don't do the responsible work of producing such false narrative, but i recently often seeing then doing it.

  4. Its lord Shivas gift to Bharath– Himalayas and its mighty rivers. Pakistan and its resources are the absolute ownership rights of Bharath and not that of the invaders and converted Hindu Muslims. It was Mahatma Gandhi, Jawharlal Nehru ( who was lost in his love affair with EDWINA Mount Battens) divided Bharath like it was their personal property, British very consciously had their covert vested interests in influencing Gandhi and Nehru in accepting division of Bharath. Though Jinna divided India to secure the lives of converted Hindu Muslims on the basis of a theocratic Islamic nation, our foolish leaders permitted Muslims to stay back all across India. These Muslims in India are now anti Hindu ,anti national , pro Pakistan, they are making the lives of hundreds of thousands of Hindus miserable in their rightful sovereignty. Could Gandhi and Jawharlal Nehru have betrayed Hindus in Bharath more.

  5. I belong to the same area and I've transparently observed the geological alternations in the Himalayan and Hindu Kush mountain ranges. The glaciers are melting at higher rate and the level of streams are quite higher in current year. No doubt this a moment of severe concern not only for Pakistan but for the entire globe, so we should take safety measures to control global warming which is the root cause of all environmental disturbances.

  6. Pakistanis are the opposite to Chinese people, chinese people love their country and their fellow Chinese, citizens, Pakistanis couldn't careless for their country or fellow Pakistanis, they only love money and family members.recently when Pakistan had its leadership changed by USA the citizens sat back and did hardly anything yet Sri Lankan people demonstrated everyday when faced with economic instability.

  7. Left leaning DW will differently tamper Indo-German relations by its anti-India rhetoric.

India has exclusive rights for the lower 3 rivers. It's none of the business of Pakistan.

India never released water dams. That was a glacial melt in Saltuj.

By the way there are dozens of tree tsunamis happening in India. This billion tree from Imran Khan is just a lala Dream.
