A large police operation in Spain revealed another well-funded attempt by Mexico’s Sinaloa Cartel to infiltrate the European market, using $10.5 million in cash and gold to ensure a smooth transition. Let me tell you about it.
The Mob Reporter here with news of a luxury roundup in Spain of an alleged crime family linked to organization once led by the El Chapo. Palatial homes, rolling estates, luxury cars, jewelry and acres of property were primary targets for the 200 officers with Spain’s National Police and the tax agency, at addresses around Madrid, 40 miles east in Guadalajara, and more than 300 miles due south, on the southern coast, in Malaga, police announced on June 4, 2022.
They set up businesses and companies, secured warehouses and industrial space and bought large homes. Police say corruption allowed them to settle quickly and easily. Somebody noticed a lot of citizens from Sinaloa moving into mansions and buying luxury cars, however. The cars and houses and cash police seized make a sumptuous display: Rolls Royce, Lamborghini, Range Rover, Porsche, Mercedes, BMW, Cadillac, Audi and more.
El Chapo is no longer calling the shots for the cartel. He was finally extradited from Mexico to the United States, where he was found guilty. His cartel is allegedly in the hands of El Mayo, whose real name is Ismael Zambada García. He has at least one thing going for him — despite his history, facing five serious federal U.S. indictment and a $15-million US bounty on him — he’s never spent a day of his life in jail.
