Today we visit with an Expat family of three from South Africa, living their dream on the waterfront of Kotor Bay located in the country of Montenegro. They discovered Montenegro watching House Hunters International in 2017, and the country did not disappoint them. We’ll discuss their budget, experiences, as well as topics like International School, and medical care. There are great Real Estate opportunities in Kotor, Tivat, Perast, Budva, Lustica, Herceg Novi, and Dobrota, and with Montenegro’s lower than average cost of living a potential landing spot for retirees on a typical US Social Security budget.

Due to the restrictive rules of the Schengen Montenegro is becoming more and more popular for Investors and Expats from America, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, South Africa, & the United Kingdom seeking a home in Europe. The Schengen Agreement has and continues to ruin the dreams for millions around the world seeking to slow travel through Europe. Gone are the days of crossing from Spain to France and resetting your passport clock in a neighboring country. If your country is not a member of Schengen you have to look at the 26 Schengen countries as one, an American can only spend 90 days out of 180 days between all 26 countries. Montenegro and a handful of European countries including the UK are options to live in to reset your Schengen clock. If you’re an American, Canadian, Australian, New Zealander, or from South Africa a Non-Schengen country like Montenegro should be in consideration for your investment budget. Even if you’re not choosing residency in Montenegro, it’s a great place to live 90 out of 180 days if you need to leave the Schengen. There are some residency options available through a few Schengen countries, but most of these require €250,000-€1,000,000 invested in or paid to the country. Italy has some options that are vaguely written and subjective to local decisions that can be inconsistent. To us Montenegro is the easiest and possibly most cost effective options available if Europe residency is desired.
We bought our home in Kotor Montenegro in 2016, we were enchanted by this medieval city from first sight. With the low cost of living, Mediterranean climate, UNESCO Heritage designation, and it’s popularity as a tourist destination for Eastern Europeans and the British it made perfect sense to buy here. As we travel Europe over the next 5 to 10 years we will be using our home in Montenegro as our home base, rest assured our journey is not ending.

Do you want to live abroad as an Expat? Are you looking for affordable and viable options? We are exploring the world to see what it’s like to live in a country, and also discover if Residency is an option.
We began our retirement in March of 2020 with the intent to travel the world, spending 1-3 months in a country or location. We want to see what it’s like to live there and not simply visit, and we want to share these experiences and the costs with whoever wishes to follow along.
If your looking for a place in Europe to live or retire Montenegro may be an option, stay tuned and follow along.

Hi guys where do You come from?
Love it, more and more South Africans move there. We will visit in July2022.
Cannot wait to see our property 👍🇿🇦🇦🇪
Hi W & J. An absolutely eye opening and amazing vlog showing the options out in Europe for a very comfy living. Have a couple of questions.
1. From what I heard, if i buy a property in Montenegro, I get an unlimited residency permit- Is that True. Is there a minimum limit on the price of the property?
2. Being a US citizen, if i buy the property in MN, then i have the freedom to roam around the EU countries with out the 90/180 day rule, because I am a MN resident. Is my assumption true?. If not I have to use the MN residence after every 90 days in EU.
I would greatly appreciate if you or Ian can give a little more details on getting residency in MN. Thanks
Well done! Can't wait to see the latest videos on real estate. Pushes me closer and closer to finally booking a trip and checking it out for myself.
I was wondering if you've been back in states since you started your journey and your thoughts about the lifestyle in the US after living overseas.
Great video as usual guys – many thanks!!
Warren, you sneaky devil. I’m 20 seconds in and notice how your camera drifts to some lovely beach scenery. Julie, get the rolling pin. Okay, on to the video.
