Hi there! I am Joseph.
I have been an immigrant / expat living in central Portugal along with my beautiful girlfriend Mariana for six years now.

Together Mariana, my father Clinton and myself, would like to show you a bit of the daily goings on around our Portuguese farm / homestead / smallholding and all of the work we are doing whilst renovating, starting building projects, working with our livestock, DIY and trying to grow our little families own food!

In this episode we welcome you to join us in mid summer time as we are given a tour around a bargain farm house, which is for sale, in a rural mountain village in central Portugal.

We start the virtual tour by introducing ourselves as we explain the location of this wonderful gem of a farm and a little about the surroundings and local amenities.

We begin by walking up to the gateway that leads to the farm which leads out directly to the village. The first thing that can be seen as you walk down the track is the spectacular panoramic views which surround the property.

We firstly check out some of the farms terraces, see the beautiful spring fed pond and take a little walk around. Once we get up to the cottage, we take a little look around, the cottage of course needs a complete interior renovation. This is fairly easily achieved though and I know of many contractors and specialists who can help in this project, the builders I know of are all local people who give a fair days work for honest pay and I have personally seen a lot of their works.

After our wonderful visit to this beautiful farm we head back to our farm and see Marianas family, Carolina, our niece, and I decided it was time for lunch. So we gathered some ingredients and set about making ourselves some wonderful Thai red curry paste smothered sea bass!

At the very end of the day I went up to one of our sheep barns, where all the girls greeted me with the promise of some tasty treats. I summed up the week and bid you all a very nice week ahead!

Have an amazing week everybody and I look forward to seeing you all again in the next one!

See our journey to self sufficiency / permaculture / organic farming living in Portugal, trying to produce as much of our own food planting vegetables, growing fruit trees as well as looking after all our animals, such as our chickens, turkeys, geese, ducks, quail, rabbits and sheep – Shortly pigs too!

  1. You should try to get a hold of @Mrandmrsadventure here on YouTube. They are Americans looking to buy property in Portugal, and I believe they are still in Portugal to take a look see. I think this is right up their alley!

  2. Portugal & its Possibilities for a Friendlier Community!
"Hello" Joseph & family, along with the people from around the world! My name is Michael and I am writing this post to assist in the possibility of change. Change that would benefit our natural environment and the many life forms within it. I live in the US and am of second generation Portuguese descent. I was never taught the language of Portuguese, but growing up with a Portuguese family has shown me a quality of some of the Portuguese people. I am an early retired Carpenter/Builder and passionate hobby grower
who is considering in the next couple years the move to Portugal. Being a lifelong Carpenter/Builder has given me great abilities and expertise in this area in which I am going to SHARE with others who have such values towards our natural environment and its many life forms and who are considering such a move to Portugal. This should open the doors and make it more possible to those that have concerns of the building aspects related to the buying of land with ruins. It seems as though at the moment there are many properties with such ruins that make a great opportunity for many of us to begin a process change with the added benefit of being around the friendly people of Portugal. If you are seriously considering such a change with similar interest let us join together and begin the process!
    Michael
