MOVING From USA To PORTUGAL | 6 Things We Can Surprisingly Live Without

After moving from USA to Portugal last year, it has been an adventure learning about and discovering new products, and developing new habits and routines. In doing so, we have learned to live without many things that were part of our daily lives back in California. Here are 6 things we can surprisingly live without here in Portugal.

  1. great video lady. I can get onboard with everything you said BUT we can agree to disagree about Mexican food. Maybe a month without a good bean and cheese is about as far as I could push myself 😉

  2. 🙋🏻‍♀️tp snob here! Lol…and I hate the bear commercials but it’s like using a cloud🤣 I will have no issues giving it up to live someplace not so intense all of the time.

  3. Interesting…For me the only thing I miss is good Mexican food! Luckily, I can cook and find ingredients in Lisbon because European Mexican food is pretty bad!! As far as eating out…We eat out more here because it is so good and affordable!! I've even decided to leave the fish to my local Portuguese restaurants!!! Otherwise, I really don't miss much and we have a car, but rarely use it! I love the Portuguese cafes and cheap, good real coffee…Over Starbucks, and I had an addiction!! Fast food, never again!! Necessities, we have it all! My 2 cents…Thx for the video!!

  4. Re the food. It’s becoming more known that the heavy food processing is Americas dirty little secret and it’s not necessary. expats from the US are letting us know this from Portugal, Spain and Mexico.

  5. Another excellent video! Thank you for your informative content on practical day- to- day living abroad. These types of things are what set your channel apart from the other Portugal expat videos. You provide valuable insight to help those moving to a new country. Good job.

  6. Thank you for this! L🧡VE L🥰VE how you have once again hit on something I haven’t seen from other vlogs. Your unique topics are very appreciated and I’m looking forward to more content because I am trying to plan a trip to look around Lisbon this year (fall) armed with the info you’re providing. Could you perhaps at some point cover things like medical care, the mail system, daily life, shopping, your interactions with the people you’ve met, and social norms that you didn’t expect? Thanks again and best wishes for continued health and happiness!

  7. Thank you for this great information!! I want to not miss most things here. 😂 We are starting our journey as minimalists to prepare for our overseas move and have already given up subscriptions, eating out so much, and moved into a one-bedroom apt. We have realized how much stuff we don't need and are ready for a simple life. 😁

  8. "… you can join (Amazon) Prime in either of those locations (Spain or Germany)… " – I have Amazon Prime (Spain), I don't think I can choose Prime from another country (Germany, France, etc) unless I use a VPN to fake location. If you're in Portugal you can order from any Amazon site you want (though orders from outside the EU will be stopped at customs and taxed) but you're stuck with the Spanish version of Amazon Prime. Note: ebooks can only be ordered from Amazon USA.

  9. I don't think I would miss having a car. In fact, Portugal's public transportation system is one of the strong attractions for me. One thing I would not miss about the US is the horrible produce. It might not have been as bad for you in California but much of the produce I buy has very little flavor even if I am buying in season. The Mercados that each town in Portugal seems to have are amazing to see and my mouth always waters when I watch any videos of them. Keep up the good work.

  10. I believe that coffee away from home is so cheap that you can always drink it outside. And a lot of Portuguese do that too. You get to know your neighbors in the public cafe. Greetings from Termas de Monfortinho!

  11. I am glad I subscribed as I appreciate your Channel content. My trip to Portugal last week was amazing and I miss it already. Thanks for helping my wife and I learn more about our prospective move.
