This documentary presents the second phase of the MUSA programme, curated and produced by experimentadesign, that took place in Lisbon and Mafra, in Portugal, between October 24th and October 30th 2021. The theme of this one-week residency was titled “Cross-Fertilization Among the Arts”.
The programme included a residency, workshops and concerts that explored the relationship between music, architecture, design and art. More specifically, it delved into the connections between sound, space and architecture; light design and public performances; product design and the creation of musical instruments; the relationship between classical music and contemporary art; graphic design; sound design and new applications of sound through cinema, theatre performance and art. Overall, it highlighted the importance of interdisciplinarity in the art world and among different areas of cultural production.
The participating quartets – Alinea Quartett, Antarja Quartet and Quatuor Malinconia – were involved in activities developed and led by renowned professionals from each area of knowledge, including artists and musicians/performers; graphic, product, light and sound designers; architects and communication specialists. The residency, workshops and concerts took place between the National Palace of Mafra and MAAT – Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology, in Lisbon.
MUSA is co-financed by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union as Strategic Partnership to support innovation (Key Action 2).
The strategic partnership is composed by: Le Dimore del Quartetto as Leading Organisation, IED – Istituto Europeo di Design and ASK – Centre for Research on Management and Economics of Arts and Culture Institutions of University Bocconi in Milan for Italy, ProQuartet – Centre européen de musique de chambre in Paris and La Ferme de Villefavard en Limousin in Villefavard for France, and by experimentadesign in Lisbon for Portugal.
