Nando's the Second! 🐓❤️ PORTUGAL FARM LIFE S4-E36

We are officially in Autumn and the official summer fire risk season is over. It’s still very dry and warm, so the actual fire risk level is still very high on some days. I found a low-risk day to tidy the farm up a bit with petrol operated tools.

We also get a new Brahma Rooster which we named Nando’s the Second. He is still quarantining in this video but will be walking around the farm with his ladies very soon 🙂

We are Ken & Gina. 2.5 years ago, we got fed up with paying a mortgage and having to work boring office jobs just to keep our heads above water! We decided to take a big chance, sell everything, and buy a motorhome, which we used to drive our remaining belongings and our pets to Portugal. We bought a beautiful farm in Central Portugal where we live with our 3 dogs, 2 cats and a bunch of other farm animals. Every week we release new episodes of our Portugal Farm Life where you can get an inside look at how we live, on and around the farm, and adapt to the challenges of our new lives.

  1. Every time October starts hot I always remember 2017. Some people think that just because officially the fire risk season is "over", there won't be any more fires. And in some areas people have already started harvesting olives…

  2. Change the blade ASAP! Worn blades cause severe imbalance and will destroy your motor's bearings. Also, changing the oil is done by simply tipping it in the direction away from the motor. Lastly, change the spark plugs and air filter.

  3. Hello, i am watching you from Greece and enjoying your videos a lot. The oil in the lawm mower can be extracted with an oil pump similar to the pumps they use for olive oil. The blades are universal check online according to your cutting diametre and you will find which one is the correct one.

  4. The engine oil, there's an oil sucking tool that makes easy work of that it's cheap also or you can use a large syringe with a bit of hose attached to it, just suck the oil out then your good to go!
Those are branded as many different names but the actual blade should be fairly standard, the chap you bought it from can't hel??
The damage on the blade is dangerous as it's out of balance and could come off or it will cause loads of vibrations on the engine causing premature wear or other damages

  6. Very good video, Ken. Nice overview of your farm. Was it night time when the predator attack your rooster and if so did he break into where you keep them at night? Where was Eddy?

  7. Mower would be tilted over on it' side, not completely inverted. An alternative may be to use something like a turkey baster to extract the oil.
A machine shop could create/make a blade. Use a hoe to root up those thorny plants.

  8. Hey there, I´ve been watching your videos for long time, really enjoy your content. I have a suggestion 😃 you could do a test with different types of grasses (gramas), try to plant small areas to see each grass is better to your land. Here in Brazil we have great results with: grama esmeralda (zoysia japonica), grama são carlos (cynodon dactylon), grama são carlos (axonopus compressus) and grama batatais (paspalum notatum) originally from Açores. those grasses (gramas) are very well used here in parks, football fields, squares and gardens. they are very heat and drought resistent, would be nice to see how they react to really cold weather. good luck, keep doing your great work. Cheers Sergio

  9. Ken there is a drain plug under the mower, it might be behind a shield, its proberly a square plug!!! you can sharpen your blade with an angle grinder (Joachim???) there are tutorials on YT. If you remove the blade, you could take to a shop and find one that will fit from another brand, normally they are not that different, worst case get joachim to weld another blade on it for next couple off years!!
