Formerly a hotel built in the early 1900, this Upper West Side studio has been completely transformed into a bright and stylish contemporary home full of space-saving design tricks where a couple can comfortably cook and entertain. Drawing inspiration from the Parisian Beaux-arts style of the building, the team at NYC Design Studio Duro Deco added various arched frames and curves to create a sense of height and space, softening the edges and enhancing the flow of the home. Moving the kitchen into the living space created one large open living area. The clever addition of a custom made ‘Murphy Table’ to fit in a 4 seater dining area folds neatly up onto the wall and appears like an artwork when not in use. The materials used in the kitchen have been thoughtfully selected to reflect light from the large window across the room, whilst a frosted glass bathroom door allows light from the bathroom window to filter through to the rest of the apartment.

  1. Oh how I love this. The design is very impressive. I just wish some of these floorplans were more culturally inclusive. Where I come from, the food is cooked with so many spices and the smell would spread everywhere inside the apartment. I would add a sliding door to separate the bedroom from the living/kitchen area. I love…love the arch in the living room.

  2. An awesome apartment in an awesome city. The architect has done a great job!!! I want to live here!!!! Is this apartment featured in one of your publications? If so, can you tell me which one? Thanks

  3. I left NYC many years ago. I will never go back. I am very happy in my "mansion" of 5,000 sq ft compared to the tiny, uncomfortable rat traps of NYC today. My mortgage is cheaper than the rent for these.

  4. Where are the books? A lot of these videos have like 5-15 books. Is it some staging rule? Do the designers just hate books and don't want to include space for them? They could fill the archway with books. And have wrap around bookshelves on the wall. Mostly just don't see enough books.

  5. This is an incredible space. Can't think of anything I'd change. It all works and is beautiful and feels so calm. Can you tell me the brand of kitchen cabinets and the brand of that gorgeous sofa? Thanks so much.

  6. I really like this space. My only quibble is that I would prefer a laundry area within the apartment, but that's just me. Given the small area, I can understand why there isn't one. Otherwise, I love it!

  7. It’s so nice to see a beautiful redesign in my home town! Please show more New York City projects!! The architecture and design complimented each other so wonderfully!
