You had a MASSIVE SCORE on those drawers full of stuff for 50eur!! Amazing the blades alone are worth a fortune now! Rest is a bonus plus the cabinet! You're like me, I love collecting tools old and new and new gadgets! Who cares if no space I don't even have a workshop yet got all tools I need and more for workshop (stored throughout my house! Even back bedroom until I can get workshop built in garden! Lol 😅🤦🏻)

Your original plan to splice the wooden beams can be used without creating a new shear point if you reinforce the beam splice with a steel plate, lag screwed, across the splice joint. Or a pair of steel splice plates bolted across the wooden splice joint. These splice reinforced plates can be sized to be hidden within the walls. Could cost less and be less work.
