Today we visit with Nomads Steve and Angela and their children, they are a Nomadic Expat family of five from South Africa, living their dream of traveling the world together, we met up with them today on the waterfront of Kotor Bay located in the country of Montenegro. Today we discuss their adventures, costs and their children’s world school education. While they travel Europe by van and can camp they usually stay in an Airbnb, and today they share their Airbnb and hotel strategies.
What is World School? It’s hands on nomad education with frequent educational field trips and activities like: Learning Greek mythology in Greece, Roman history in Rome, Sailing in Montenegro, Surfing in Portugal, Martial arts in Serbia, and frequent trips to Science, Art and History museums. Coupled with an online education.

Due to the restrictive rules of the Schengen Montenegro is becoming more and more popular for Investors and Expats from America, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, South Africa, & the United Kingdom seeking a home in Europe. The Schengen Agreement has and continues to ruin the dreams for millions around the world seeking to slow travel through Europe. Gone are the days of crossing from Spain to France and resetting your passport clock in a neighboring country. If your country is not a member of Schengen you have to look at the 26 Schengen countries as one, an American can only spend 90 days out of 180 days between all 26 countries. Montenegro and a handful of European countries including the UK are options to live in to reset your Schengen clock. If you’re an American, Canadian, Australian, New Zealander, or from South Africa a Non-Schengen country like Montenegro should be in consideration for your investment budget. Even if you’re not choosing residency in Montenegro, it’s a great place to live 90 out of 180 days if you need to leave the Schengen. There are some residency options available through a few Schengen countries, but most of these require €250,000-€1,000,000 invested in or paid to the country. Italy has some options that are vaguely written and subjective to local decisions that can be inconsistent. To us Montenegro is the easiest and possibly most cost effective options available if Europe residency is desired.
We bought our home in Kotor Montenegro in 2016, we were enchanted by this medieval city from first sight. With the low cost of living, Mediterranean climate, UNESCO Heritage designation, and it’s popularity as a tourist destination for Eastern Europeans and the British it made perfect sense to buy here. As we travel Europe over the next 5 to 10 years we will be using our home in Montenegro as our home base, rest assured our journey is not ending.

Do you want to live abroad as an Expat? Are you looking for affordable and viable options? We are exploring the world to see what it’s like to live in a country, and also discover if Residency is an option.
We began our retirement in March of 2020 with the intent to travel the world, spending 1-3 months in a country or location. We want to see what it’s like to live there and not simply visit, and we want to share these experiences and the costs with whoever wishes to follow along.
If your looking for a place in Europe to live or retire Montenegro may be an option, stay tuned and follow along.

At this rate you’ll be interviewing Elon Musk by October
Nice, but this couple is obviously wealthy, not something for someone who has a job to go to everyday.
Awesome video….this was the second couple from SA. you interviewed.
I am also from SA. been in Georgia for 2.5 years now but really got our eyes on Serbia.
Sound as if you really enjoy Serbia?
All the best and enjoy every moment creating memories.
Real good advice toward the end about the off-brand vs. name-brand cities and countries.
