As the economy starts to open up and with Covid-19 still being a threat to many black and brown, poor and working class people across NYC – tenants are not being given any solutions for rent from government and NYS Governor Andrew Cuomo. Having to face a pandemic that has taken more more lives than any other war in recent time, 9/11 and that’s being compared to the influenza pandemic of 1918 – tenants are being harassed by landlords to pay rent despite being told by government to not work due to the health crisis of Covid. Having to face an economic crisis that was entirely out of their control, tenants are struggling to make ends meet and some have had to out their lives on the line to afford the cost of food as prices gauge and scarcity becomes more and more apparent. But tenants in the US and across the world are rising up against this reality in places like El Salvador, France, Venezuela, Portugal and many other others, government has gone as far as to cancel rent or create certain protections that went beyond just an eviction moratorium. Tenants are demanding the Governor Cuomo listens to the millions of tenants across NYS and cancel the rent just as he shutdown jobs.
