Off-Grid Life is an Adventure (Focus on the Positive)

Wild weather meant a limited amount of work outside, but still made small steps in the right direction. Online work at the start of the week, a quick work trip away at the end of the week, more shenanigans with Oreo…life does seem to be a series of adventures.

  1. 🙋hi from Scotland hi Cindy think you should maybe try a windshield for your cooker it might help piggies are getting big and so are all your seedlings , Cindy just think of the glorious dummy ahead of you still to come good luck with the kennel he is also getting big take care stay safe Anne Scott from Scotland 🐕💐🌹

  2. Strong cardboard box approx. 20 cm high that fits around your stove top or the burner you are using, cut out bottom and top or fold in for strength, wrap in multiple layers of aluminium foil and use as temporary windshield. Works for my paella ring in the garden on a windy day 🥘 😊.

  3. Your farm & vegetables are looking great, Cindy. I too use mulch to keep weeds from taking over my planting beds, & it does work great but only if there is at least a couple of inches worth. 3-4 inches is better. When I didn't have enough mulch, I have used layers of newspapers w/ holes cut for plants. Then I put mulch or even rocks/stones/pinecones to keep the papers from blowing away. Overlap the newspaper edges to prevent weeds between the papers. When I didn't have enough paper, even old clothes did the trick.

  4. I do worry 😟 every time I see cindy with a electric drill or something like that I do worry 😟 bless her 10 out of 10for having ago nice video 📹 cindy take care 🙂 😉

  5. Every DIYer I watch drills first before screwing in a screw. I have learned to take that extra step. It annoys me every time lol. That clever Oreo, I hope you can get him on film as he moves from pen to pen. How lucky to have so many avocado trees. How long before the kitchen will be closed in I wonder. You've done well living with that open living area.

  6. Thinking back to the weekend cottage among orange trees ..my parents built on a kitchen, with(recon) Dover stove, paraffin frig and had backup gas pots for kettle and outside gas light for barbecue. Also before moving in built on a bathroom with Sep loo and store room. A deep hole(septic tank) was made for loo poo and bathwater went out into garden via movable plastic pipe. Our water came from a spring into a lovely dam and a pipe brought water into kitchen and bathroom and loo. No pump needed. Force of water was enough. Awesome place and as we were both florists we had a lovely easy garden. Masses of blue and white agapanthus, Shasta daisies, roses and hydrangeas under a pergola the length of house in front.Imagine! 🍊🍊🍊

  7. Hi Cindy, re pig pellets and greens in clean bowls. There must be a shop in village selling flat bottomed plastic basins. These can can be wedged with round edged rocks, two pigs per bowl. Pigs are clever as all animals are and would appreciate not to try and snuffle up soil while enjoying their meal. Please,🐷🌻🤔

  8. Cindy why not put up a temporary tarp in your kitchen (will save you some gas) for bad windy, rainy weather which you could roll up when the weather permits for the time being. 💖

  9. Happy Sunday Cindy! I hope the dog house build is coming together now. Your plants look happy in the greenhouse. That pump watering can looks handy. The pigs seem to enjoy when you talk to them while filming. Take care. 💕from Ky.

  10. Hi Cindy. Hope you are having a great Mother’s Day. Just watched todays Vlog. You are looking really happy. Just an observation – when using your saw, try tying a bag to the sawdust exhaust to collect it. It will be good for your compost loo. Your plants are looking good and the pigs are lovely to see. Keep the vlogs rolling. I look forward to the next one on Wednesday. Have fun on your farm but stay safe. Xxx

  11. I had to add my two cents worth to working with screws. You can rub the screw with a candle or piece of soap and it will go in much easier. I watch "See Jane Drill" on YT for anything I want to learn. Great job.

  12. Great job! You look like you’ve become stronger and more agile since the beginning of watching you a few months back. It seems to me this lifestyle is doing a well of good 😌 😊

  13. As Thandi likes being outside more than in,a kennel is great. Will you have it slightly raised of floor so no water can get in. What about having a little porch at front of kennel where you could leave water bowl. Work never ends on a farm. ❤

  14. You could try making a tube of sheet metal (corrugated roof e.g.) of about 30 to 35 cm in diameter and about 30 cm in length to protect the gas flame from the wind. You can put some wire around the circumference to keep the sheet from jumping open. You need a piece about 105 cm in length of 30 width. The corrugations should run parallel to the width, so that you can actually bend it.

  15. Hi love how you see every challenge as a learning experience. I am curious when you go to workshops what are you doing? Taking them or participating? What is the subject matter? Hi from Australia
