We have had an extreme heatwave this week with temperatures reaching plus 40 degrees celsius and not dropping below 20 at night. Our simple off grid set up makes living in this heat a bit of a challenge, with early morning and late evening being the only time to work outside. We’re still trying to grow on our food though, so lots of time in the garden and Iwan continues to work on our plum wine.
If you’d like to support our project there’s a couple of ways you can *Thank you!!* 😀

A bit about us:
Carissa, Iwan & Frankie decided one night over a bottle of wine that moving from North Wales to Portugal would be a good idea. Within a month they were on the road to Portugal to find the perfect piece of land to call their new home. We picked up Albi the cat along the way. Subscribe to follow our journey as we turn an old stone barn into our home, and learn the ropes of looking after a piece of land to make an abundant garden and one day, our very own winery.

Love the Green Cricket moment!!
Blackberries ❤️
Seeing the pets laid out like that truly let’s me know how hot it is LOL. Poor babies. Y’all be safe out there.
Wet your clothes. The evaporation will cool you down too 🙂
Insulate your cabin 🙂
So a tip for the heat.
Buy two hot water bottles per person fill them with cold water (or cold water with antifreeze) put them in the fridge take one hot bottle out when it has chilled down and put it at the small of your back on the chair where you are sitting. This could be in the car when you’re driving or at your office chair or your lounge sofa. You will get the benefit of the reverse effect that you get in winter when the hot water bottle keeps you warm. The opposite will happen as the hot water bottle which is now really a cold water bottle will aim to reach equilibrium i.e. it will draw heat from your body into the water of the bottle until the temperature eventually reaches your body temperature. Once the cold water bottle becomes warm replace it with the one waiting for you in the fridge If you don’t have a fridge cold water from the tap will do. It just needs to be colder than your body temperature for the heat exchange affect to take place (you could also put in freezer if you want the effect to last longer
Hey guys! Hang in there, I hope the weather is more bearable there now, as it is here in Sintra! But I completely understand you, it was really hot last week and impossible to get anything done during the day…
You look so cool and sophisticated in the opening sequence! I look like a melting tub of lard!
When you talked of clothes in the heat I thought of that beautiful light flowing white blouse you wore one time …. actually I worried that day.. lol. Be careful with tools & flowing material 😊
HELLO CARISSA & IWAN…THE WIND WITH IT, WILL MAKE IT EASIER TO BEAR; IT IS A BLESSING…PRAY FOR WIND…🙏;)
About the extra land behind the kitchen. I read somewhere that if they get a buyer, they're bound by law to offer it first to neighbouring land owners. If true, then you wouldn't be left out at a later date, surely? Stay cool 😎
You have an amazing attitude and kept smiling despite the killer temperatures! I enjoyed every minute.
I've seen on the best here in the UK about the fires in Portugal I do hope it isn't near you. This winter you do need to get your jobs done to make life easier next year. keep safe 🤗🤗🤗
Loved this one guys, great shots of Frankie and Diogo ❤️❤️
Your music is at least peaceful
Soon the heat will be over . I think we’re in for your heat when our summer comes . At the moment , we’re between 1 and 4 * . In the evenings and mornings .
Hugs from South Africa .
Stil noticing y bruised leg hope it is better
Sorry I can’t hear you very well do you have your mic turned down
Do u have enough water
Well, I found it completely fascinating, I thoroughly enjoyed it! The newspapers etc are full of the problems Portugal and other countries are experiencing. I feel for you. I'm currently cycling in central France and have taken a tip from The Guardian newspaper – aim to do physical work between 4am an 7am, the coolest part of the day. Its working for me.
In days of yore ie pre-electricity people worked at night using 'the parish lantern ' – a bright moon. It is amazing what you can see once you're tuned in.
Stay cool, wet towels, sheets etc for you and the animals. Stay inside whenever possible
Your videos are exceptionally good…. thanks for sharing 👍💯👏🤗
Thanks for Sharing,
Hope it gets Cooooler soooon,
Love and Rainbows
👌🏻👍
Hi guys.Tricks to survive ? Ask the locals. They are always willing to share their knowledge. Especially the older population. I was at our casa near Castelo Branco earlier this year and arranged for the return to England by mid June. The last week was not productive at all ( Frustrating to say the least) so I share your pain. Getting out of the heat is the only sensible thing. But here in England we are about to have some of this heatwave for a while. Hang in there guys. Great vid.
🤞🌟👍🍀💐
