Our Fairyland. We bought off grid land in Central Portugal.

We bought off grid land in Central Portugal Castelo Branco district. This is our first day on the land where we share our exitment 🙂
We made this video right after signing the contract to show our land to our family and friends, so it was not meant to be “You Tube quality”, we uploaded it to You Tube, just, because, it became too long to send in messander apps… then we just left it up public, so, that if anyone else might be interested, they can also see it…. so, you are welcome to follow our journey, but please excuse the poor quality of this video, it was created on the emotion of exitement and in the hurry to get the word out to our families, thet we have bought the land….

  2. Wow so many people moving to a less inhabited area with challenges of nature. Reminds me of the settlers in the new frontiers in America. Instead of horse and wagon it is now a camper van. Good luck. Hope your well is always full.

  3. Congratulations on your lovely piece of land! It seems to have a lot of potential. I loved to see how happy you were 🙂 Looking forward to seeing you turn it into your dream fairy land (just subbed). The house seems to be in good shape, but you're going to need some windows, no? Also I'd put a fence around the well, if I were you. The plants with the white flowers growing alongside the saint john's wort are wild carrots (just don't eat them raw). I did enjoy your tour of the land and your joyous faces, but unfortunately the sound quality was quite poor. And you also need to work on your filming skills 😉

As for the eucalyptus, there are several reasons why they are really bad news. As an invasive species in Europe, besides being a massive fire hazard, they are also very detrimental to the native flora, to the soil itself and to biodiversity. They have deeper taproots than the native trees, so they lower the ground water and outcompete the native species. They also deplete the soil of nutrients and destroy biodiversity.

It is true that cork oaks won't burn. But the original Portuguese forest of mixed native trees and understory vegetation (of which unfortunately there is only 1% left) were also very fire resistent. So you might like to look into the possibility of regenerating the native flora by planting native forest tree species on parts of the land.

Best of luck on your beautiful dream.

  4. It all looks lovely and I look forward to future vids………but, the sound quality was awful. That not a bad comment, it’s just to say, you might want to invest in a microphone 🙂👍 beautiful place and the young chap did well

  5. You your land and your son, I’m assuming he’s your son, introductions would have been nice, but love the land love your energy can’t wait to see more. The sound was terrible if you were giving some history to the property I completely missed it hope you go over it again.

  6. Wowwwww your son is Singing the song of freedom he’s also climbing and taking his land That was precious I really like your property It’s have a lot to offer you see you in the next update 👍✌️🤙❤️🇵🇹❤️

  7. I like how your son is giving gifts to the land that shows respect to mother earth she will also give gifts back to your Family in staying ability I totally agree with your son These are the ways of our ancestors our ancestors also gave gifts to the land American Indians believe in the way of life you give and it will be given back to you that shows respect Looking forward to following your journey 👍✌️🤙❤️🇵🇹❤️

  8. Congratulations on the new farm, and also the new life that follows it.The farm looks more than great, and many fruit trees that already give fruit, you do not start at zero. A lot of work lies ahead, but the joy of progress outweighs the hard work (most often), and one learns through mistakes as elsewhere in life. I can't wait to see more from you, your work and your plans. I am always impressed by those who dare to follow their dreams, I wish you good luck in your work and in the wonderful country of Portugal

  9. Congratulations ! Looking forward to your videos. Just a note please ….I couldn’t always hear you clearly …in and out as you moved about. I know you were excited and I understand but there are many bloggers doing the same as you in Portugal so the sound and cinematography need to be at its best.
I wish you all the best!
